At the time of their wedding, Ivy had recently found out that she and soon-to-be husband (and Blue Man Group performer), Josh, were going to be parents. As you read this now, Ivy + Josh are happily settling into parenthood. Congrats you two! Now to their wedding, which is so sweet to witness after knowing she was with bebe! It has been described as a “flash” wedding by many because it materialized in just four months. To some people that’s crazy talk, to Ivy, not so much. With the help of many friends a spectacular wedding took place!
We’ve all heard of the “glow” that new mamas have when they’re pregnant – multiply that with the glow of also getting married, priceless! And what a looker is Ivy in that custom Electric Feathers dress, right?
Hello gorgeous sparkly Louboutin’s! Get on our feet!
The two had started dating in 2007, but had known one another since ’99. As Ivy says, “It was quite the slow burn. Then became a real quick burn”.
We wanted our wedding to really reflect our lives and our NYC artistic community. Getting married at the Judson Church, the home of modern dance, was such an honor. The Judson Church Movement in performance art; poetry and theater also have a rich history in that building. I’ve performed there before and it’s such a magical space.
Such a great shot!
For the reception we wanted a down and dirty colorful party. We chose the Golden Unicorn in Chinatown because my Chinese cousins said it’s where all the best Chinese banquets are held, plus they had dragons on the walls with eyes that lit up!
The whole wedding was like a DIY in a way; we’re just super lucky to have really talented friends! We literally used people we knew for everything from the rings, my dress and custom veil, the invitations, reception decor. The ceremony included performances by our musician friends Adam Dugas, Casey Spooner, Eric Fraser and Damon McMahon. We bought all our reception favors in Chinatown with our stylist friend, Cooper– picking out hundreds of tiny golden buddhas and thousands of Chinese good luck coins which did double-duty as decor was super fun.
