Geronimo balloons, metallic gourds, pheasant feathers and fondant hearts were all at home amidst Alissa + Mark’s elegant and memorable affair at the Weisman Art Museum. It houses a great collection of modern art, overlooks the Mississippi River bank and was the perfect wedding venue that represented unique aspects of who these two lovebirds are. And if the architecture of their venue isn’t pretty enough, check out Alissa’s wedding dress!
Alissa’s bridal bouquet included dahlias, sweet peas, garden roses, scabiosa, spray roses, dusty miller and pheasant feathers. Alissa’s biggest request was that her bouquet include pheasant feathers–her dad grew up in South Dakota where pheasants are synonymous with autumn, and she loved the idea of something a little unexpected, visually, that was a nod to that side of her family.
We spent about ten months planning from start to finish, but a lot of that time was really relaxed–I’m not sure how much that reading wedding blogs while drinking wine counts as planning! The biggest hurdle was definitely our guest list. We both really wanted to keep things small–Mark’s biggest concern was making sure we were able to spend meaningful time with our guests, especially people we don’t see often, rather than spending the entire evening in a whirlwind of handshakes and faces blurring together. So we were committed to keeping it on the small side (our target was 100 people).
