We srsly love it, looove it, when a photographer and a designer’s visions for a shoot pair so supremely well that you have to think it was meant to be. Jillian Bowes’ moody and evocative photo style and Kenley Event Design‘s mission to style a wedding at dusk in the fall = a prime example. Really guys, has a backyard ever made a more perfect backdrop?
Katie of Kenley Event Design says, This photo shoot was inspired by a still-life painting of a floral arrangement I came across by 17th century artist, Rembrandt. The piece was the perfect juxtaposition between light and dark—taking place in a dark room while the florals took center stage. I was taken aback by this particular painting, because although it was created centuries ago, there are very similar nods to this style of organic and textural floral design today. From this came the idea of styling a wedding at dusk with pops of color. And what better time to shoot a wedding than fall in Michigan?
She mixed and matched brass and gold and paired them with Damsel Floral Co.‘s breathtaking fall floral arrangements, all inspired by a 17th century dinner party.
Katie explains, To soften the look I integrated natural, textural elements like handmade paper and plant-dyed fabric from Silk & Willow. The changing colors of the overgrown trees in a private residence was the perfect backdrop for it all, and the gown by Emily Riggs added a stunning elegance, with a plunging, French beaded lace top and a flowing tulle skirt.
Their relaxed elegance is so fitting too, don’t you agree?
