By the looks of the photo above you might be wondering; what is this place, how do I get there, and where is it? Last month Jillian and Scott were so fortunate to visit Amangiri Resort nestled into the protected valley of Canyon Point, Utah, on the border of Arizona. We’ve featured a few other Aman properties in the past such as Amanyara in Turks & Caicos and Amazoe in Greece, and each resort continues to take our breath away with how they blend into their natural environment. We’re so excited today to hear more about this property and their magical experience. Over to Jillian…
Last month Scott and I celebrated 8 years of marriage. Crazy, right? Not long after we were married 100 Layer Cake was founded. Together we’ve accomplished so much, created hundreds of projects (one being our beautiful boy), and documented many of our adventures on the blog. So when we got the opportunity to visit Amangiri, we were both ecstatic! This place has got to be the craziest place we’ve ever visited, and it’s practically in our backyard. The landscape is insane! You feel like you’re walking on the moon. The rock formations are stunning, the sun creates the most amazing light, and at night the stars light up the sky.
The resort met and exceeded our expectations. I was initially a bit hesitant to visit the property during the month of November. I so wanted it to be warm, but the cool temperatures turned out to be the cozy experience we were yearning for, especially after our abnormally hot October in California.
As soon as you enter Amangiri you are welcomed with such warmth and grace that you instantly feel relaxed and at home. They mentioned that the resort does not have a dress code, and some guest are welcomed to dine in their robes. We thought this odd at first, but soon realized they just wanted us to feel comfortable, and not pressured to dress up unless we wanted too. We dined at our leisure, opting for room service, to peacefully enjoy the view from the room.
At Amangiri you can have a mix of relaxation and adventure. On the morning of our anniversary the hotel coordinated a sunrise drive to Horseshoe Bend. It was incredible to see the canyons changing colors right before our eyes. I’m slightly skittish of heights so looking back at these images reminds of the adrenaline running through my body thinking I might fall off the edge. It was thrilling and worth every moment.
The hotel also arranges tours of Antelope Canyon, which can be a bit touristy, but worth it. They also took us to a few private canyons that only their travel partners are available to show. This made for an intimate look at these beauties!
Walking throughout the property my mind envisioned so many wedding moments. Such as the one above. They’ve hosted ceremonies, welcome cocktails or intimate receptions on their stargazing observation deck. How amazing would this be for an event? I love how it changes from day to night.
We spent lots of time swimming in their heated pool and hot tub hopping. Relaxation to the max!
Couples massage with a view alert!!!
Just steps from the resort you can take a guided hike to a suspension bridge. Noted to be the highest in the area. I personally didn’t take on this challenge but Scott said it was well worth it. The views were incredible!
I think you can tell by the photos it’s a pretty magical place, no? Whether you’re looking to host a wedding, book a honeymoon, or just getaway for the weekend, this place is truly is a magical wonder. The resort is so accommodating and if you can dream it they can make it happen. Scott and I feel truly lucky that we were able to visit Amangiri and hope it inspires you to book a trip to this unique venue. We’re looking forward to more adventures in 2016!
