Hannah knew what she was getting into when it came time to plan her + Jeremiah’s backyard wedding in Maple Valley, WA. Her + her sister own event design company juliet + lou so she’s no stranger to all things wedding. They planned, designed, and did almost everything themselves, and even stayed within their 20k budget with a guest list of 130. Thanks to Dorothy Huynh for sending these shots our way!
Gah, that dress and bouquet. Hannah knew she wanted a little somethin’ unconventional for her wedding gown. This BHLDN number is such a lovely pick, right? And for $800!
Jeremiah and I are both laid back creative types. He’s a musician, I’m a writer. We’re both a little quirky and love to entertain. We basically wanted our wedding to feel like a big fancy dinner party. We imagined a folksy and intimate evening where some of our closest friends and family could put on their dancing shoes, drink some good wine, and celebrate with us. To make the evening feel more intimate, we had live folk band Handsome and Gretyl, we served a family style dinner, and we had a self-serve bar where guests could mingle. As for style/theme, I was going for sort of a “backyard bohemian dinner party” vibe. We incorporated rustic elements like farm tables and wild greenery, and paired it with more elevated details found in the silver candelabras and serving platters. I’m in love with autumn so naturally I wanted to incorporate fall colors but in a chic and modern way. We used champagne, lavender, gray, navy, and shades of pink.
Having the wedding at their friend’s home was another big budget saver. They didn’t have to deal with venue rules and were able to set everything up the day before and stay as long as they wanted. Plus, those trees? All the wedding décor a guy and gal could need.
They collected china from fam + friends and coordinated food themselves too.
A fave memory from the bride… I loved our cocktail hour. The atmosphere was so conversational and intimate. Our band was playing in the background, everyone was getting their wine and chatting. After the ceremony, Jeremiah and I opted out of the grand entrance and just wandered around the lawn and hung out with everyone. I met a bunch of his out-of-state friends and co-workers for the first time and I loved being introduced as his wife. We were so giddy.
Cheers to the happy couple!
