If you like the moodier, romantic wedding ideas we’ve posted here on 100LC (does last week’s post come to mind?), you’ll love these images by Samm Blake. J + D (and 26 guests!) traveled to New York from Australia so they could experience something completely new on their day: winter. Simple as that! All they needed to do was see photos of Gramercy Park Hotel to know it was the place + have one Skype sesh with Ara of Rock Paper Scissors Events to know she understood their vision.
We’re so thrilled to hear our bride found her planner and photographer in our vendor guide.
Jess explains, I knew that I wanted something pretty unique—dragging your guests halfway around the world to a ballroom or restaurant without a view was not what I wanted—we could do that in Australia! I was looking for a place that was unique and had character. I was hoping to find somewhere with views of the city and that would also do a small wedding (not easy to come by surprisingly!). I accidentally found a Gramercy Park Hotel wedding on Pinterest and it was love at first sight! The rooftop terrace with NYC views, beautiful lighting and greenery, and the stunning hotel itself couldn’t have been more perfect.
Isn’t this shot gorg? Jess had followed Samm Blake’s work for years (she’s Australian too), so she was pretty thrilled to find out Samm is now based in New York.
Ara says, To thank all of the guests for making the trek, the bride and groom collected a personalized book for each one that was inspired by the guest. Each guest seemed really touched by the selection and reacted with a laugh, wink or tear. The books were tied into the tabletop decor with chic black and white wrapping for a layered, festive look.
This cutie cake? They actually totally forgot about a cake until the morning ff. Dan ran over to Momofuku Milk Bar to grab a naked cake and Ara decorated with leftover flowers. Aaaamazing.
Loved Jess’ attitude about planning, too! She tells it, I kept it simple and didn’t over analyze any decisions we made. I picked exceptional vendors, trusted they were professionals and knew what they were doing! It meant I wasn’t stressing about things that I couldn’t control and I definitely didn’t micromanage the process. It’s easy to go down the rabbit hole with planning, so once I made a decision on something I stopped looking—don’t second guess your choices… In saying that though, I got pizza sauce on my wedding dress 2 months before the day and forgot to get it dry cleaned (and altered) until 1 week before we left for NY. Don’t try on your dress after a few wines ladies!
So many good stories. Cheers!
