Where to start with Aly + Troy’s big day? Maybe Aly’s handmade Lace Bridal dress that she found on Etsy for under $400 (!!!). Or the fact that they had a catering disaster but it was all OK because their friends + fam created such good appetizers that no one even noticed. Or, the budget: $10,000. 10k for 120 guests at Blue Hound Farm. Thanks Sarah Brookhart Photography to for sending this our way!
A + T live and work on a farm + therapeutic lifesharing community where they share their lives and take care of people with intellectual disabilities. Isn’t that so amazing? Clearly a farm wedding with tons of personal details totally fit them. The whole day was DIY. Aly + her mom + friend coordinated and designed everything, her dad made the cake using her late grandmother’s recipe, her brother made the arbor, Aly framed photos of family, they made programs using Makr, and incorporated tons of Etsy finds (individual shop credits below!). Aly says, My friend called it the Etsy wedding because every time someone would ask me where I got something the answer would almost always be Etsy.
Florals: peony, blue thistle, green bupleurum, Italian ruscus, white stock, peach stock, light pink hypericum, baby’s breath, white spider mum, pink ranunculus, white ranunculus, white freesia, and scabiosa stellata håll
After we walked down the aisle together while we waited for our guests to begin to exit the ceremony and meet us on the yard for the receiving line, we had this really short, very sweet moment, just the two of us, hugging and soaking in the feeling of everything that had just happened. As we waited for the guests to file out we were able to look out over the whole scene and see all our friends and family that had helped make the day possible. I remember feeling so truly happy and full of love.
So sweet!
My biggest piece of advice would be to remember that even if everything goes wrong the day will still be filled with all the people you love celebrating your marriage. Whenever we would get a little anxious about something we would just tell each other that we could always order a bunch of pizza, play good music, drink good beer, and celebrate our day- and that would be a great memory.
Cheers, Aly + Troy!
