Today we’re so pleased to have Danni of Oh Hello Friend guest blogging with us. She’s a super crafty chica who’s also planning her wedding in the next year. So, we thought we’d let her give you the inside scoop into what she’s thinking of crafting up her wedding.

From Danni:
My fiancee and I are taking wedding planning one day at a time. I’m really excited about our engagement pictures and definitely want to get that done first. When I started looking for inspiration, it was not hard to quickly find lots of amazing shoots and creative ideas. So here’s what I found: Follow me along as I search for inspiration for my engagement shoot. And maybe you can gather ideas/inspiration if you’re planning an engagement or anniversary session yourself!

LOCATION
First, choose a location. I noticed lots of open fields have become very popular, or perhaps just a place with lots of negative space that the photographer can use to capture in your images.

In the first image by Alysse Gafkjen, this couple braved it through the weather and snow and they ended up with beautiful images. Consider the weather and using it to your advantage. Or you can pick an actual storefront which makes for great images as shown here in Brandon Kidd’s candy store shoot and Max Wagner’s carnival shoot!

Lastly for location, I think this photo by Tim Melideo at the beach in vintage bathing suits is too cute! Love the train tracks and vintage outfits they chose in the next photo by Clayton.

PROPS
I tried thinking of fun extra props we can bring to add to our pictures. I love these concepts and ideas that these couples came up with:

THEME
According to a wedding site I was at recently, engagement themes are a 2010 trend. I think if you can pull it off: awesome!

So inspired by the themes captured in these images! They have everything going for them in the photos: clothing. props. set. Perfect!

Hope you enjoyed the engagement photo inspiration! Tomorrow I will be back with engagement session decor ideas + what-to-wear outfit inspiration.

  7. how wonderful! my wedding is a year and a half out so we are planning on doing our pictures this summer in our home state of Minnesota. it’s been fun thinking of places to go and things to use. we haven’t made any final decisions yet, but some ideas have included, air shows(we’ve flown a lot to see each other) and on the mississippi in his dads fishing boat (as we both grew up on the water and I love to fish!)

I can’t wait to see what you have in store for what to wear!

  10. These are great ideas! It works out so well when the couple puts some fore-thought into the engagement session ideas, and it makes it that much more personal! Because the photographer can create visual beauty, you also want your shoot to resonate with you as a couple! From a photographer, thanks for sharing this inspiration for couples!
