Cori and E.B. planned a classic city wedding at San Francisco’s City Hall. We do love a good city hall wedding, San Francisco in particular. They’re city people who love architecture, signage, hotels, bridges, and brick. They live in LA, but retreat to SF for weekend getaways which gives them a sweet romantic attachment to the city. And it is a beautiful city… perfect for a modern, vintage-inspired wedding.

Cori and EB area both graphic designers so of course they made their invites themselves.

For favors, they gave guests (along with a goody bag stacked with quintessential SF treats) vintage SF postcards from the forties packaged in glassine bags. The best part was reading correspondence the original recipients had read about a friend’s trip to SF way back then.

After their intimate ceremony at City Hall, the wedding party hopped on a classic cable car (tour guide included!) and headed to the historic Tadich Grill for toasts and lunch.

Where EB surprised Cori with a vintage rolex on a plate of oysters. Cute wedding pressie!

100lc_rwcori-eb10

They they headed to Crissy field for some outdoor photos with the bridge in the background, and then onto the Mission for more photo ops. Since their whole wedding party (guests included) was 10 people, they had plenty of time to talk and enjoy the day with everyone.

Finally, they finished the evening with a big meal at RN74.

What a fun and memorable way to spend your wedding day…touring the city you love with your closest family and friends.

Thanks so much for sharing, Cori and EB!

Blue dress! Pretty blue dress + pretty blue eyes = beautiful wedding in Ithaca, NY. With a 20’s Gatsby theme. Zack is a philosopher and Cori is a poet so they were all about a creative wedding… while still maintaining an element of old fashioned glamour. They chose Stewart Park for their venue because they 1) met and fell in love while attending Cornell and 2) loved the history of the early film industry in Ithaca and Stewart Park in particular. Their reception space (the public pavilion next to Cayuga Lake) was originally the Wharton Brothers silent film studio in 1919.

100lc_rwcori-adam1

But back to the dress. The women in Cori’s family never wear white to their weddings so to her it wasn’t an important tradition to follow. Cori found her dress on Bluefly and then took it to a local tailor to have the back redone in a more vintage fashion.

Cori and Zack exchanged letters and small gifts before the ceremony… Cori embroidered a poem on a pocket square for Zack and Zack gave Cori an ammonite fossil, because snails are a symbol of their relationship.

100lc_rwcori-adam6

100lc_rwcori-adam7

Their ceremony was super personal and focused on well written words and a reworking of tradition.

Listen to this one: “We put a bottle of wine, two glasses, and a set of love letters (written in secret and unshared) into a wooden crate and then sealed it with nails (each nail was hammered by a family member to show their commitment to supporting our marriage and then finally by us). The crate is meant as an act of reassurance, a romantic gesture–if ever our relationship is in peril, we are to open the crate, drink the wine, and read the letters before we make any decisions about our future.”

Um, shouldn’t we ALL do that for our weddings?? At the very least you end up with a lovely aged bottle of wine.

100lc_rwcori-adam8

Cori’s sister and husband built the chuppah themselves, which was quite a feat since they had to travel to the wedding.

100lc_rwcori-adam9

Their entire family pitched in to clean (literally clean the windows and floors) and decorate the public hall the night before the wedding. They made coffee filter garlands and used vintage player piano reels as table runners (CUTE!!). They wrapped the benches in deco designed kraft paper to hide the old paint. Every plate and piece of cutlery was compostable, and they used mason jars for glasses. They totally turned a semi-run down public space into an amazing early century dance hall!

100lc_rwcori-adam10

100lc_rwcori-adam11

They gave mums in vases with gocco-ed tags to guests as favors and decorated with old books and typewriters as a nod to meeting in grad school.

Beautiful, thoughtful wedding day Cori and Zack! Such a collaboration of your creative energy with your entire family. Thanks so much for sharing with us!

Photographer: Brion Hopkins - which is kind of a story in and of itself.

Cori and Zack entered the Featherlove free photography contest and came out as finalists. Since they couldn’t afford a professional photog, they asked a friend to do the honors. Until Brion contacted them, intrigued by their story, and offered to shoot their wedding for a plane ticket and accommodations. How amazing is that?? And in Cori and Zack’s words, he totally changed their wedding day, stepping in as coordinator when needed and generally bringing loads of enthusiasm and light to their wedding day.

A sweet and small Martha’s Vineyard wedding for you all today. Jamie and Adam had a very intimate wedding of only 36 guests, which meant they had tons of time to toil over their DIY projects. Jamie designed their invites and paper goods, as well as their welcome bags and even their water bottle labels.

Because their wedding was so small, they asked everyone in attendance to be a part of the ceremony. They gave all 20 women a beaded necklace Jamie had made and all 16 men matching bow ties. And Jamie’s grandma made all 21 bouquets the day for the wedding.

100lc_rwolol8

They asked a family friend to marry them, (in Massachusettes, anyone can apply for a one day Marriage Designation to allow them to officiate a wedding), and because one of the Justices of the Peace on the island wears a top hat when he officiates weddings, Jamie thought it only right to find one for their officiant too.

Adam spent the months leading up to the wedding restoring his ‘64 Thunderbird so they could bring it over on the ferry for the wedding. Each can tied on the back had a drawing and wish from a guest. Cute idea!

They had sweatshirts printed as guest favors… because aren’t they the quintessential summer vacation on Martha’s Vineyard souvenir?

100lc_rwolol12

And their reception was a good old fashioned clam bake, with pies from the best baker on the island.

Beautiful wedding you two! With so many thoughtful details. Seriously, everything Jamie and Adam did for their wedding was a little mini labor of love.

And Whitney & Jesse, thanks so much for the amazing photographs!

Melissa and Matt were married this past October at the Cree Estate in Palm Springs. It’s a huge property so the immediate families all stayed there for the weekend. Isn’t that fun?

Melissa’s vision for her wedding was “modern vintage” and she pulled everything together with endless hours of crafting in the weeks leading up to the wedding.

She made favor boxes, program fans, cocktail stirs, butterfly place cards, table numbers, wine labels, coasters AND her invites and save the dates. She got so into it that she even opened an Etsy shop last week!

Beautiful wedding, lovely photography as always.

Thanks for sharing Melissa!

Isn’t this first photo just beautiful?? The very very talented Anna Kuperberg sent us this pretty wedding at a private estate in Sonoma. And it has such a thoughtful theme woven throughout.

100lc_rwdaniellesteve1

100lc_rwdaniellesteve2

Early in their courtship Steve traveled a lot for work. In order to keep each other connected to the other, they started a book club of sorts… with just two members. They read books together even when they were apart and their love of reading became the central theme to their marriage celebration.

100lc_rwdaniellesteve3

100lc_rwdaniellesteve4

Instead of reading scripture, they chose letters and emails from their own dating archive to craft their very personal ceremony. They wrote their own vows that articulated their union in a way no traditional ceremony readings could. Each guest was given a book full of quotes and passages from the stories they’d read and shared during their relationship. Isn’t that just the neatest favor ever?

The intro goes like this:

“Early on in our relationship, we found a common language and interest in discussing the books we were reading together. On this day, we recognize that the stories we’ve encountered along the way, whether real or fictional, have undoubtedly shaped us as people and as a couple. In this book you’ll find a collection of quotes that we’ve read to each other over the past few years.

We could have given you some candied almonds or a scented candle, but this favor will look a lot cooler on your bookshelf. Consider it an offering of our sincerest gratitude.

Thank you for filling the pages of our story with tall tales and characters we will never forget.”

It’s amazing how creative people can be during their wedding planning process, isn’t it? We’re thinking this goes down as a top 10 favor idea.

Congratulations Danielle and Steve! We wish you many decades of stories ahead.
