The Ace Hotel in Palm Springs is pretty rad. It’s funky and fun and stylish and has a single mission of ensuring that it’s guests have a really good time. The design details are excellent, food is tasty and inexpensive, and the snow cone cocktails are exceptionally refreshing after a hard day lounging by the pool. Amanda and Kristina have both (separately) made the trip out to the desert to scope out the scene and we’ve made an executive decision that someone needs to get married here. Soon.

On top of all the hipster glory that comes standard with your room rate, it’s pretty much set up for a party due to the following:

1. Photobooth in the lobby (just set your guest book table up next to it, right?)
2. The Amigo Room, a vintage roadhouse dive bar complete with inventive cocktails, mexican bank note coated tables, and a real stuffed bear behind the bar. (amazing rehearsal dinner venue)
3. Free bike rentals to be used for the touring of Palm Springs
4. Outdoor fireplace lounges for congregating over cocktails when the sun goes down.
5. A holistic spa with outdoor Yurt treatment rooms
6. And of course Commune, their huge event space that opens onto a pool and patio. Which is where the weddin’ would be.

It’s so great. And the best part is that entire concept is so well designed, you wouldn’t have to do much else in terms of decor for the wedding.

Some Ace-appropriate paper inspiration for your invites, your rock and roll save-the-date posters, and other miscellany:

And our friends at Hammerpress sent over some amazing new invites they’ve been working on for the upcoming wedding season. We’re thinking their stylings would be perfect for a wedding at the Ace:

Because Alison was nice enough to give us one of her pretty new books as part of our DIY contest prize, we thought we’d take a second and share some of her events, her tips, and a little about the girl behind the company.

alisonevents21

1. Dress up existing lounges/furniture by throwing linens on them for a splash of color.
2. Have fun with your wedding shoes and pick a sassy color.
3. Take photos in unexpected places.
4. Candle light, candle light, candle light.
5. Arrive by boat. (if you’re near a body of water, of course)
6. Make your own unique, themed table numbers.
7. Let your personalities show in your invite.

And a few things you never would have guessed about Alison:

“I have a 1969 honda cb350 motorcycle. I own 20 pairs of flipflops and sandals. I lived in New Zealand for a year in college. I won 4th place in a border cross snowboard competition in Australia in college. I did an Japanese emersion program for a year in high school where we studied the language, history and culture for a year and then went to Japan for three weeks and lived with a family.  I had dreadlocks for two seconds until my grandmother paid me to cut them out. Oh and I am a Daughter of the American Revolution, my ancestor was Govenor Bradford who came over on the Mayflower.”

See, wedding planners are people too!

Being that wedding season is officially in overdrive, we know that lots of you lovely readers are gearing up for some serious crafting time in the next few months. And some of you are already right in the middle of the madness. Which means it’s the perfect time to open up our blog to you all!

Here’s the deal: Any cute, creative project you’ve done for your wedding, for your friend’s wedding, for a birthday party, a backyard-just-because party, is game. We want to see your best project… one that will inspire our readers for their own weddings and parties.

And here’s what you get:

diy-contest-prizes2

1. Our friend Alison Hotchkiss’s brand new, ultra beautiful book, “Destination Wedding Planner: The Ultimate Guide to Planning a Wedding from Afar.” And as a bonus, the photography is by the very talented Thayer Allyson Gowdy. Oooh.

2. Bare Escentuals Earthy Chic Color Collection, which includes eye color, liner, blush and lip polish.

3. Isola Bella pillow and notecards. Gina’s pretty, hand painted, eco-friendly products are printed with vegetable inks and made from sustainable materials. Plus her light and lovely island style is hard to resist.

4. And finally our good friend Audrey from Urbanic Paper Boutique is contributing adorable, personalized address labels from Pica Press. Anyone in the LA area should pop into Audrey’s cute shop next time you’re on Abbot Kinney.

Which means you get 1) an awesome planning resource, 2) something to beautify yourself for your wedding weekend, 3) a treat for your new, married home and 4) super cute labels that will come in handy with your thank you cards.

To enter the contest, please include photos and a description and email your entry to us: info{at}100layercake{dot}com.

We can’t wait to see what you come up with!

*UPDATE*: the lovely Jamie pointed out that we have failed to mention when the contest closes. Whoopsies! We are new at this, obvs.

Please send your projects to us by Friday, May 1st. Let’s make it midnight PST. You know, in case you have to run home after work on Friday to finish something before you send it over.

This time from Papier Valise. OMG. We have been literally staring at our screens, wiping drool from our chins all morning long.

First from her shop:
