We’re super excited about this little post from everyone over at the Flashdance. You’re all familiar with those peeps, right? Well this is their first full Flashdance collaboration… meaning Our Labor of Love, Max Wanger, and Michael Antonia were all there doing their thing. What a lucky couple.

Michael even sent over a Summer Jams playlist to give you all a taste of what went on that day:

Betty Wright – Clean Up Woman
Jean Knight – Mr. Big Stuff
Smokey Robinson – I Second That Emotion
Sly & The Family Stone – Sing A Simple Song
Jackson 5 – ABC
Naughty By Nature – O.P.P.
Stevie Wonder – Superstition
Violent Femmes – Blister In The Sun
New Edition – Candy Girl
The Notorious B.I.G. – Mo Money Mo Problems

Nice!

And here’s a sweet little recap that’s written so well, we’re not going to try to rewrite it in our own way…

“The couple decided that they wanted a very simple, practical, wedding. They leaned heavily on their amazing friends and warm, friendly, family to create an atmosphere where they could be themselves, be in love, and have as much fun as is humanly possible without being wasteful, or doing anything that didn’t represent them as individuals, or as a couple. They had the ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, and reception on the lawn of Ben’s dads’ house in Malibu with 180 degree views of the ocean on one side, and of the desert mountains on the other (lucky!) The food was hand picked from the local farmers market and prepared in the family kitchen, the wine was hand made by a close family friend, and Ben even got on the turntables for an hour or so (he is a very good house dj!) Two things that were very important to them were music, and photography… Ben has been a dj for years and knew that the music had to be just right! They had a local student jazz band play some cool west coast jazz during dinner, and a classic cocktail lounge piano man play some standards in addition to some kitchy lounge tunes during cocktail hour.

It was a very beautiful day that, like most beautiful things, was very simple. It wasn’t too fussy, but was very elegant. It was unlike any wedding we have ever been to, or are likely to ever go to again, and that is just the way we like them!”

Thanks Flashdancers for sharing! We always love seeing what you come up with.

And you can see more photos on The Flashdance blog later today.

Our friend Tyler (remember Liss & Tyler’s awesome Isla Mujeres wedding?) sent over these really beautiful, modern invites he and his partner recently designed. His own invites were amazing, so clearly these are too.

The couple had two weddings, one in France and one in Chicago. The French wedding was inspired by the couple’s time in France. And because they met in French class and both love the language, they couldn’t pass up the opportunity to host a week-long celebration at a Chateau. Clearly we don’t blame them. But they also knew that not everyone would be able to travel all that way so they held a second wedding a few weeks later in Chicago.

The invites bring together both celebrations in a really creative way. And we love the look of an old Euro train ticket.

This was hard. Really. We had so many sweet comments with so many good ideas, we could have just chosen at random and surely the winner would have been the perfect choice. But we didn’t. We actually enlisted the help of our most awesome artisan du jour, Jessica from Miniature Rhino herself. BIG HELP. Thank you Jessica for stepping up!

Now, because there were so many excellent entries, Jessica (being the generous and lovely person that she is) offered to chose two winners, instead of just one. Awww. See, that’s why we love writing this blog. So much wedding love to go around. And for the rest of you dearest entrants, if you’d still like a Mini Rhino sampler for your wedding Jessica is offering FREE SHIPPING for all orders placed before August 21st. Just enter the code 100LC during checkout and she’ll refund you the shipping costs once your order has been placed.

Now onto our winners…

Such a sweet, thoughtful response, Lucy! And we always appreciate the occasional use of the word “dude.”

Again, a lovely way to articulate the meaning and relationship between your wedding and the sampler. Happy planning Emily, sounds like so much fun! We trust there will be quality beer at the reception?

Winners, we’ll send you an email to confirm and Jessica will be in touch about details. We can’t wait to see how they turn out.

Everyone else, don’t forget the to place an order by the 21st to take advantage of Jessica’s offer. Code: 100LC at checkout. Shop: Miniature Rhino on Etsy.

Go out and get a sunburn this weekend! It’s August already. Where did our summer goooooo???

100lc_beach

We’ve been feeling warm and sunny this week, as evidenced by our light posting. Summer does that to us, you know? Be back next with our giveaway winner and some cute new posts.

Hope you all enjoy your days in the sun. With sunscreen. We didn’t mean it about the sunburn. Sunburns are so 80s.

This pretty wedding is just, well, awfully pretty. Isn’t it? It’s so lovely and serene, it’s just a nice thing to look at and appreciate in the middle of the week.

Awesome shoes, pretty bauble-y lights. And the sash really makes the dress, doesn’t it? Though, off the record, we can point you to a tutorial on how to make your own, if you know what we mean.

Ceremony: Vinology Restaurant Bubble Room, Ann Arbor

Reception: Inn at St. John’s, Plymouth, MI

Dress: Watters

Sash: Vera Wang
