Good monday morning everyone! Today is our little blog’s first birthday. Can you believe it? So much has happened in the last year that we just want to take a teeny moment to say thank you for reading. And for making 100LC the pretty little place on the internet that it is. If you guys weren’t here with us, we wouldn’t be doing this!

Let’s finish up the week with a completely adorable and super fun backyard wedding in Malibu… including a day after shoot with horses and a pool. It kind of looks like it’s not real because it’s so incredibly cute, but we promise it is.

Anna and Ryan bought all of their flowers at the LA Flower Mart and had friends and family help arrange them into misc glassware found at thrift stores around town.

For favors they made mix CDs and gave little bags of their favorite candy, gummy bears. And to spice up the tables, they bought 5 different fabrics and had a napkin making party one afternoon with a handful of friends. After the wedding they gave sets to close family and friends… hopefully the same ones who helped make them!

We love super sweet weddings like this… simple, heartfelt and all about the couple (with a few cute details thrown in, of course). You don’t have to go crazy to make your wedding memorable, not that we blame you if you can’t help yourself.

Congrats Anna and Ryan! You have so many amazing photos to print and frame. We hope you dedicate a wall in your house to your lovely day.

Finding a unique and fun idea for a Wedding Shower or Bachelorette party is never easy. Sarah of Blossom and Branch thought of a sweet way to incorporate Bodega Flowers, something you always see on your way home from the office, into a class to cater to us city dwellers. Since Courtney has been guest blogging with us for the week we thought we’d invite her as well as other friends to a class and make it all cute for ya’ll.

From Sarah:

Bodega Flowers: 101″ was dreamed up with the idea that New York City women often feel they are too busy to bring the simple beauty of fresh flowers into their lives. And the savvy consumer is also conscious of the expense of floral arrangements. Meanwhile, We all pass those local groceries with mounds of inexpensive flowers on the way to bus or train. I thought, why not show people how to gather some bunches from the local bodega and create something charming in their home? This class teaches women how to shop for, clean/prepare and arrange flowers, using their own container.

For Courtney and our friends, I selected some basic bunches of roses, tulips and carnations from the local bodega and showed the ladies how to take them from generic to chic.

What’s a party without making it look all cute. Jillian gathered some local talents to help spruce up my apartment for the class. We rolled out craft paper, Love*Jenna used her talents to create personalized workstations, Jillian handmade aprons by using Ikea dish towels and Linda & Harriet donated their zig zag printed note pads for the occasion.

To spice up the party treats and spirits must be present. I enlisted Sasha Smith of Spin the Bottle NY to provide a wine education and tasting for the ladies. Leah my incredible partner in crime and second mom created scrumptious finger sandwiches. And, a Brooklyn party isn’t quite complete without the help of One Girl Cookies decadent sweets which paired nicely with what Sasha was pouring. All the ladies could take some sweets home with those cute craft bags by Nice Package.

I gave all the ladies a little instruction and look at em’ go…then Viola! Perfection.

One of my biggest obsessions is typography. I could look at it, design with it and talk about it all day. So it’s been exciting for me to see typography playing a larger role in wedding and event design recently. Decor is an area where we’ve just started to scratch the surface, but we’re definitely looking for fun and interesting ways to incorporate type into our space. Here’s a few examples that are getting the wheels turning.

Another aspect of our wedding I’ve yet to mention is that we’re trying to go handmade as much as possible, so Etsy has been a trusted companion throughout the planning process. Etsy also just so happens to be an amazing resource for typographic decor items. Here’s a few to get you started:

As a two designer couple, the invitations and paper goods are definitely in our top three list of most important details for the wedding. But sitting down to design them is no easy task. As any other designers out there know, designing for yourself can be quite the challenge. We had a great time designing our Save the Dates, but the Invitations just seem like a much more daunting task. So to get us started, we gathered together some examples of trends and styles we’re currently really drawn to.

These styles definitely run the gamut, but I think as broad concepts they may all come into play for us. I tend to gravitate towards invitations that tell a story, whether it’s through its words, or imagery or both. So I think that will be an important consideration as we begin the design process. But I don’t think the story would be complete without bold color, interesting, typography, unexpected details, and illustration all playing a role. Time to get to work!

Is anyone else in the same boat? What styles are currently inspiring you?
