Anyone else still get excited when they see big tassel balloons used as wedding decor? Always, always fun. What’s even more rad is that S + K used their wedding as an opportunity to support a ton of Austin women-owned businesses in their community, making all the modern, playful details Bird Dog Wedding brought together that much more special. Once you start scrolling through these photos by The Nichols, you’ll know exactly what we mean…
Poppies and ranunculus? Too good. Emily of Bird Dog Wedding says, The wedding design blended modern simplicity with Southwestern flair. We used a color palette of indigo, aqua, and lots of citrus poppy tones to infuse the white space with color. Florals from Davy Gray were cheerful and funky: a textural mix of garden blooms, cactus, and air plants.
Prospect House is kinda the best for fresh, modern wedding portraits, huh?And Diana of Bonne Nouvelle Design created *the* neatest modern paper goods throughout. Heart eyes!
Sarah tells it, Our design inspiration was drawn from the places we love across Texas—the high desert of the Trans-Pecos and the designed spaces of Austin. We both like distinctly Texan styles of modern design and architecture, and our Emily of Bird Dog Wedding was able to combine textures, colors and feelings that captured both the desert Southwest and the vibrance of urban spaces and design in Texas.
Emily and her team hand-dyed crisp linen table runners with indigo for the reception.
Sarah walked down the aisle to The Real Thing by The 5 Royales and their first dance was to Waltz Across Texas by Ernest Tubb.
Lastly, our bride on the planning process… I think because we’d already been together for 10 years and gone through a lot of life steps together (moving cross-country, getting a crazy dog, buying a house) before deciding to get married, it felt easier to keep perspective on the fact that we were just planning a big party for our friends and family. Probably the piece of advice I’d give is for brides like me—if you want to have an amazing wedding but aren’t a designer/DIY-er/planner or otherwise interested in controlling every detail yourself, that’s fine! My wedding felt just as personal to me and just as much a reflection of us and what we love, without me having a hand in every little detail.
100% on board with that. Congrats, Sarah and Kevin!
