Amee + Tae’s Los Angeles wedding is the epitome of moody, minimalist design, but that’s not the only reason we love it. These two have a strong, minimal-chic aesthetic (as evidenced by Amee’s own insta)—and all of Krista Ashley‘s photos prove just how well they merged their personal style with their wedding. Amee even designed the day herself, with coordination by 100LC member Harmony Creative Studio, allowing for just a hint of whimsy a la the eclectic space at The Ruby Street to shine through.
Amee tells it, I am definitely a less-is-more type of person when it comes to my style, and definitely wanted more of an alternative bride look—nothing too bridal or gimmicky. I couldn’t see myself wearing a veil or even having a train for my dress. My asymmetrical dress was the perfect design for me.
The Atelier by Dawn Kim dress was made up of a 4-ply silk crepe with an asymmetrical, one shoulder design.
The venue we chose is very eclectic with playful details, but we chose to simplify the space to keep it as minimal and clean as possible. We removed most of the furniture to let the space speak for itself… We were just so happy when we visited The Ruby Street for the first time. It felt really special and intimate—something that we didn’t feel when we visited other venues. I also gravitated to the couple who owns the venue and their story behind the space. And personally, I wanted a venue that was relatively new so that it would be fresh and not a venue that I’d seen a lot.
For their wedding party, they kept everything monochromatic with black to contrast their white. Get a feel for Amee’s vision on her Pinterest board here.
I found Krista of Krista Ashley Photography on Instagram, and really gravitated to her photos. My own style of photography is moody and a lot of times on the darker side. Knowing that the venue was bright and colorful, I wanted our wedding photography to offset that. Krista’s style paired with Ruby Street’s whimsy was the perfect balance for us.
She designed all of the invitations, paper goods, and even their wedding website. So inspiring!
Amee’s advice to those currently planning: Our engagement was a little over six months, and it took me probably four months to really plan. The biggest hurdle was achieving the look and feel that I wanted on a strict budget. I’d say early on in the planning, it’s beneficial to differentiate as a couple the must-haves and the nice-to-haves. For each person, these things may be completely different, so it’s important to compromise and come to an agreement.
