Vintage meets Modern wedding at The Fig House

Whimsical Fig House LA wedding

It’s not super often that couples have the same exact style, so it’s no wonder many are drawn to venues like The Fig House in Los Angeles that come complete with an incredible mix of two aesthetics. Creative professionals Michele + Kay have different tastes—she’s into modern and playful, he loves a good vintage theme—so The Fig House was not only a best of both worlds scenario, it actually helped dictatate their theme, juxtaposition. Thanks to Laura Goldenberger + Just Merried Events for sending this one our way!

One way they carried a theme of contrast throughout? Luxe, rich colors to complement the rustic wooden furniture below. Michele didn’t have specifics on what type of flowers she wanted Valerie Jurado Floral Design to work her magic on, but shades of red, white, blue, and pink were a must, as was having garlands, her hair piece, and even flowers on the cake (below!) to continue the theme…

M + K’s wedding had an intimate guest list of 50, and The Fig House ended up being the perfect size. It also fit their budget, style, and location needs. Check, check, and check!

Michele says, Our most memorable moment was not exchanging vows, walking down the aisle, our first looks, or getting ready for the wedding in the morning because all of those were distracted by our nervousness on that day. Truth be told, our most memorable moment was when we finally got to sit down, relax, and enjoy the food (even though it was only 15 minutes)! My husband was having a beer, and I was enjoying our cheese board and live jazz as we watched our guests having fun, talking with each other after months of preparation for this wedding. That was a moment of perfection, and also a moment that we both remember vividly to this date.

Lastly, M had some advice that we think all you couples planning will appreciate… We actually didn’t find Just Merried Events until 4-5 months prior to our wedding although we started researching wedding ideas about one year before the wedding. I thought I did not need a planner, but boy was I wrong. So my first advice is to shop for the perfect planner, probably one year prior to your wedding, because even searching for the perfect wedding planner itself was a hurdle. Make sure you can communicate freely with your planner and that you are compatible and comfortable with each other. Another hurdle for me to overcome would wanting to fit every cool idea that I came across in ONE wedding. I kept switching around and wanting to perfect my wedding along the way and it created a lot of disagreements and stress between me and my husband. Decide on one theme early on, and stick to it. Keep everything simple. Save everything relevant onto a Pinterest board, but don’t over-save everything you find cool. Not only would it make it impossible to execute, it confuses your planner and even yourself as to what you really need. The things you can do to perfect a wedding are endless; you can only do so much within a time frame.

Cheers, you two!
