Marla is one of those brides that had the same thought that most of us have had at one point during the wedding planning process. You know… the one about cutting your guest list by 90%? She actually did it, saved a nice chunk of cash by having a small ceremony instead of a big bash, and in doing so, had enough money to splurge on a Paris & Prague honeymoon! That’s one great tip to take away from M + R’s wedding. But here’s another one- gold spray paint. Erika, Creative Director of Historic Cedarwood, spray painted so many things. Greenery, succulents, placemats, candle holders, cardboard letters, etc. Take a look!
Bouquet recipe: gold spray painted King Protea, gold painted long leaf eucalyptus, Dusty Miller, Queen Anne’s lace, and soft blush and ivory spray roses.
Love Marla’s baby’s breath floral crown.
How they met… Ross and I met at a mutual friend’s Halloween party in 2010. Ross swears he heard the song “Dreamweaver” play in his mind as soon as he saw me and just knew he had to be with me. I, on the other hand, sure gave him a very hard time in his efforts to get my phone number, but let me tell you, finally giving him my number was the best decision I’ve ever made in my life! He lived in Memphis, Tn at the time and I lived in Clarksville, Tn (a 3 hour drive) and we made the effort from then on out to alternate visiting each other for the weekend and through the process of getting to know each other, we found out that we had been neighbors growing up in Clarksville, his house was behind mine and our siblings actually knew each other! A year prior to meeting him, I also lived in Memphis and it turned out that we had lived in the same apartment complex!! We definitely concluded that we were pretty much meant for each other, but weren’t allowed to meet til the time was right.
Found brass and antique oatmeal glass served as floral containers, while unique woven placemats spray painted gold, and collected vintage plates set the table.
Ross and I actually started off planning a larger wedding with plenty of extended family and friends, because the costs of this initial plan we decided on a wedding date that was a year and a half from our engagement. Most of the wedding would have been financed by us, so we were going to postpone our honeymoon. One day, on a trip to NYC, we were having dinner alone and somehow realized that neither of us really wanted a huge wedding and it was more important for us to be married as soon as possible and be able to take a honeymoon that would just blow our minds. So we decided right then and there to do away with the big wedding and plan something much smaller. We eventually decided on just having immediate family at our ceremony and to have an intimate dinner afterwards. It was very hard to explain to the friends and family that knew our initial plans, but we needed and wanted to do what would make the both of us the most happy.
We’re so happy you went for the small, intimate wedding! Turned out beautiful, right? Congratulations Marla + Ross!
