When someone tells us that they love all things pink our heart kind of skips a beat. We love all things pink too, but we also know that it can be easy to go over-the-top-girly with it. But when it’s your 30th birthday, who cares! Sally Balt of the calligraphy and custom paper goods design studio, la Happy recently celebrated her 30 years. To make all the pretty happen, Rachel Bowes of Finch & Thistle Event Design styled a fab celebration to coordinate with the gorgeous hand lettered invitations Sally designed. The result was a memorable, whimsical and fancy backyard dinner party set against a backdrop of organic apples trees.
So, you guys know how much we LOVE pretty paper goods, yessss? Here’s what Sally told us about her beautiful birthday invitations:
To set the tone for the party, I designed and sent out custom calligraphy party invites. The invitations were letterpressed and calligraphed by me, la Happy, on soft cotton paper with a hand painted pink watercolor background. The letterpress printing was done by my friend Lisa at ilfant press in a beautiful gold ink. The guests’ addresses were then calligraphed in black ink on light pink envelopes with sweet heart postage stamps to match. The return addresses were letterpressed on the back flap of the envelopes in gold ink. The table numbers were calligraphed in black ink on soft pink cotton paper. (Perfection!)
Great tip from Finch & Thistle on how to style florals around a large dining table:
To fill out the long table, I chose to create a single large focal arrangement and several smaller bud vase style pieces with a slightly larger grouping of blush and rose pink garden roses at one end to add visual interest and some whimsy. I used garden roses and cafe au lait dahlias as the main components in the gold urn centerpiece with gorgeous peachy-blush garden spray roses and accents of pieris and berries. I used fresh hops to provide a gorgeous scent as well as movement to the arrangement.
Using an iron-on transfer, Sally hand lettered the guests’ names making the napkin both a personalized favor and a place card.
So good, and not too over-the-top girly, right? Make sure to pop into the gallery for all the lovely details!
