Smile cakies, it’s Friday! But if the impending weekend isn’t enough to put a big grin on your face, this cheery, DIY wedding from XO Azuree should do the trick. Jessica + Robert wanted to honor the bride’s Mexican heritage, which is where they got their fun, succulent-inspired color story. Plus, it’s just full of cute, little handmade details, from the tissue paper flowers and garlands to the centerpieces and table numbers. And did we mention these two did all that crafting in six months flat? Along with some help from their fam of course. Phew!
Jessica says, For our favors, we decided to do our own take on Mexican prayer candles. A friend photographed us and my husband designed the rest of the candle, which included our cats and a love song by one of our favorite artists, Bright Eyes.
For the centerpieces, Jessica spray painted a bunch of thrifted bud vases she collected in the months before the wedding. Cute!
When in doubt, just serve donuts at your wedding. Can’t go wrong there.
A little more from the bride… We were married in Illinois before the marriage equality bill passed. At that time, some of our most beloved friends and family members were unable to get married, and were denied the same benefits my husband and I would enjoy simply because of who they loved. We thought it fitting to use an excerpt from the landmark Massachusetts marriage equality case, Goodridge v. Department of Public Health—which declared marriage a civil right—as the main reading during our ceremony.
What a fun wedding! We wish you all the best, Jessica + Robert!
