Katie + Stephen’s wedding represented the two of them just right: an intimate woodsy space at a friend’s property to honor his outdoorsy side, and soft, artsy touches that showed off her love of beauty + simplicity. When guests entered the ceremony space, they walked into a woodland fairytale setting that was captured ever-so-romantically in film by photog Sawyer Baird.
Katie’s BHLDN dress was light and airy with soft petals, a silk chiffon shell, ostrich feather, and a tulle petticoat. These pretty dusty purple bridesmaids dresses are from Free People.
This bouquet by Kelly of Intertwine is a beauty for sure. Her recipe: Peonies, garden roses, dahlias, anemone, ranunculus, sweet pea, and parrot tulips, forged greenery. See more florals by Kelly here.
Those faces!
Don’t you love the groom’s style? Stephen wore an H&M suit + J.Crew shirt.
Katie says, I walked down the isle to “A Soft Place To Land” by Kathleen Edwards. My brother is a musician and recreated the chords. It was so meaningful. We danced to Ingrid Michaelson’s version of “Can’t Help Falling In Love”.
A favorite moment, from the bride: There’s nothing sweeter to remember than the first moment I got to see Stephen in my wedding dress. I thought I might pass out, but the adrenaline of coming up behind him and having him turn around is something I’ll never forget.
They had 135 guests and the space gave them intimacy yet plenty of room to spread out, mingle, and lounge.
They wanted everything to feel artsy and eclectic with a feminine flare. Katie’s mom made the table linens and the ceremony benches, bags and cornhole game were also DIY.
Katie’s tips for brides planning: If you’re planning a wedding, ask for help. I think too many brides feel they have to do everything and make all the choices, but sometimes you need others to get you thinking creatively and logistically. The best thing I ever did was hiring an event designer. I enjoyed my wedding because I knew someone else was taking care of all our ideas!
Most of their budget went to three things: food, event design, and photography – food to create an experience for guests, design to bring their vision to life, and photography for memories that will last forever (Katie’s a photog herself – she knows how important that is!).
Congrats guys!
