Given the amount of sunny, pastel, and altogether bright photos that we see in our Pinterest + Instagram feeds (not to mention the 100lc inbox!), it’s pretty easy to think of certain styles as the final say in event design. But inspo can come from anywhere, and today’s shoot was inspired by Dutch Renaissance paintings, their Old World beauty, and the dramatic contrast between dark + light they portray. And boy does this make a case for the luscious and rich side of design!
Thanks to Andria Lo for sharing these images with us today…
They chose Oakland, CA restaurant Camino for their lush and romantic setting. And isn’t this Alice + Olivia dress gorgeous? (PS: It happens to be on sale right now, too!)
Melanie of Hawthorn Flower Studio explains, We chose to emphasize the contrast between light and dark, to add a dramatic flair. On the table, a lush arrangement of white clematis and burgundy peonies, plum branches, tulips, fritallia, anemones and lily of the valley. Tablescapes feel like artful still lifes of simple pleasures.
A vegan + organic wedding cake with vanilla bean buttercream filling and a patina finish…Mmmm. Thanks to Tara Allen of Fox and Fawn for the instant craving!
Melanie says, Finally, we’d like to leave readers with a sumptuous wedding dinner menu inspired by our shoot, and crafted by the owners of Camino:
Wood oven-baked oysters with absinthe, breadcrumbs and carrot salad
Kabocha squash salad with yogurt, pomegranate and walnuts
Wood oven-baked whole petrale sole with farro and cucumbers
Lamb leg à la ficelle, grilled loin and slow-cooked shoulder with grilled rutabaga, chiles and mint
Vegan wedding cake
Beautiful work!
