C + C met at a mutual friend’s house back in 2009, but they didn’t go on a first date until a bit later when Charlton started working at the same company as Cindy. (Cindy didn’t even realize their first date was a date until he showed up with a bottle of wine!) Luckily it was a good one, because four years later they set out to plan the ultimate wedding day slash bash for their family + friends. The first thing they did? Book SmogShoppe of course. They opted out of wedding formalities like cake cutting and the bouquet toss. Instead, Cindy surprised her mom by presenting her with the bouquet. They also created a custom vinyl jacket with photos for a guest book—another nod to their personalities—and of course, spent time crafting the perfect reception soundtrack to party to.
Who needs ceremony décor when you have a succulent wall, right?
Cindy’s fave décor detail:
We created faux-mini Polaroid images of our guests, using some of our favorite photos of them, and used those to note their seat and meal choices. Some photos were sweet, where others were just hilarious! We had the opportunity to secretly peek down at our guests as they arrived and see their reaction to escort card display. There were a lot of surprised faces and laughs—it was such a bonus to our big day!
Charlton and I wrote our own vows, so we marked a day the week before the wedding where we would have our vows ready to share with each other. We ended up making dinner reservations at a restaurant where we had our very first date (the date I didn’t know was a date), and we read our vows to each other in private. Looking back after the wedding was over, I was so grateful we did that, as it gave us a chance to sincerely deliver and receive these important words to and from each other.
