Emily is a meditation expert + Jason is a world traveler (he even popped the question at the Bay of Bengal), so we had a tiny hunch their day would be beautiful + maybe even a bit unconventional. But we didn’t expect them to enter the reception to the Star Wars theme or choose their photog Brandon Lata based off of his ability to take epic landscape shots. Having always pictured getting married under a canopy of oak trees, Boone Hall Plantation, was more than the right venue for it all to come together.
Where did she find this dress, you ask? It’s a blush organza silk gown with a white lace overly by Ines Di Santo. Emily designed the halter and changed the shape of the back, and paired it with a veil that her aunt Helen created with lace from a veil her grandmother made that had been in the family.
Out of the Garden dreamed up some swoon-worthy florals + Ooh! Events provided coordination and rentals.A special moment from Emily… The moment before my mom and sister were about to walk me down the aisle my sister pointed to the sky and told me to look. There was a small plane flying overhead. It was the same kind of plane my father used to fly. He was a pilot. He passed away when I was 24 and one of the things that always made me sad was that he wouldn’t be there to walk me down the aisle. After we saw I told my mom to look up and the plane was gone… No trail of exhaust just a moment later. It felt like my dad was letting us know he was there with us at the moment we needed him most.
Is this heaven or…?!
Brandon of Brandon Lata Photography says, There were so many unique elements, like a meditation session in the dark on Emily’s wedding morning, using her mother’s vintage wedding guest book for guests to sign, a special hand washing ritual with water blessed by their officiant, and the presence of an hourglass at the ceremony which Emily’s late father made for her. Emily and her husband also made each other’s rings themselves… I could go on and on.
As for planning advice, Emily suggests talking with your coordinator on who will handle what during the whole process, which we think is a great tip!
Congrats E + J!
