Bree + Sam’s wedding is just one of those we know we’re bound to keep flipping back to time and time again. Design-wise, every single photo Megan Welker captured is inspiring. And we loved, loved hearing their story + proposal last year. Especially because it came along with a DIY heart floral backdrop by Lavenders Flowers, who dreamed up all the floral magic you’re about to see…
Sam and I grew up together, so to get married over 15 years later was pretty magical. We were engaged for at least three or four months before we even started thinking about planning. We didn’t know much, but we did know how we wanted to feel and how we wanted our guests to feel. And tacos. We had to have tacos. Our goal was pretty much to create a wedding that was equal parts love and fun. We both love the outdoors and had our hearts set on getting married in the sunshine. We were lucky enough to find an amazing venue, score with perfect weather, and worked with the most badass team of vendors.
Yep, that heart backdrop is the best idea ever.
About her dress, Bree says, Tatyana is a one-woman show and based in New York, so the process was somewhat unconventional. I found her a while back on Pinterest and, after falling in love with the sample dress she sent me, I sent her my measurements and ended up flying out with my mom for a final fitting at her Brooklyn studio. It turned out perfectly and the process will always be a favorite memory of mine. I rented my veil for $20 from my alterations lady—it made way more sense than buying one for a couple hundred dollars elsewhere!
They had 165 guests, so all the DIYs they took on were group efforts with Bree’s parents. They thrifted frames, handmade table numbers, and painted pretty much everything gold!
