Little story behind this gorg floral chuppah you’re about to see more of in Jenn Emerling’s photos: when S + J were looking for one, they couldn’t find anything that fit their vision—a simple structure made of copper piping. Sarah’s dad insisted that he make it, and her seamstress mom made the covering. Isn’t it so neat that she got to say I Do under something her parents created together?
They both loved Millwick in DTLA because it’s so open and welcoming, and they loved the idea of getting married close to home.
Sarah says, Bash, Please came up with an amazing color scheme for us. I am a big fan of neutrals, and definitely have an understated style. Left to my own devices, the wedding would have been different shades of neutral and black. They created this gorgeous color scheme and I don’t know how they managed to know my favorite colors, because I didn’t even know them until they showed them to me. It was something I could have never come up with on my own, but as soon as I saw it, I knew it was perfect for us.
Sarah works in restaurant marketing + PR and Josh is a cook himself, so having a big family style meal was super important to them.
Love this last piece of advice from Sarah… The biggest hurdle for me. was planning something that still felt like it represented Josh and I. We are not really the type to have a wedding, if we had it our way we probably would have eloped and never told anyone. We wanted to respect the wishes of our parents, and I have to say—I am SO happy that we ended up having the wedding. It was so moving to have everyone that I love in one place at one time, celebrating something so special. So my advice would be, if you are considering not having a wedding or having a small wedding, as long as you make it yours and aren’t afraid to go against conventional traditions, it can be a really great experience and I don’t think you will regret it.
Cheers to the happy couple!
