With a black wedding dress + moody Lake Como setting, nothing about these elopement photos Elisabetta of Lilly Red Photography sent our way is conventional—yet they still encapsulate traditions that channel a beautiful Italian wedding. Teaming up with Benevent Planner, the crew was all about celebrating Italy’s move last year to recognize same sex unions (cue cheers!) with a stunning combo of the modern and traditional. Take a peek!
A little bold color goes a long way, doesn’t it? These watercolor invites were actually done on fabric with the envelope liner being a map of Como.
The ceremony was located in Onno, a small lakeside town where the mountains in the background create the perfect frame. This setting on the beach, where two women could venture to celebrate their true selves. Our backdrop for ceremony was an old, vintage door with the intricate colored glass, long since removed from an Italian cathedral.
They chose handmade jewelry from My Golden Age paired with The Mrs Box for added romance.
Como has a long, rich history of fine silks and fabrics. In the olden days, there were many mills, filanda as they are called in Italian, where the fine fabrics were spun. Few remain nowadays but their legacy and presence still exists. Our session incorporated the history of fabrics of the region and we used that to play into our theme of ethereal winter elopement surrounded by cotton, wools, and silks.
This pavlova style wedding cake is one for the books, too.
