Ready for the perfect fall love story, guys? Julia + Harper dated for 7 years before he popped the Q (more on that below!) under the twinkling lights in their backyard. When it came time to plan the wedding, they were all about style, ease, and good times for their guests. Luckily, Blue Barn Cidery in New York allow them to channel their aesthetic and love of entertaining while keeping things easy for all 121 of their loved ones. Oh, and this crew’s amazing wedding party style? We’ve got more photos of that from Alexandra Elise Photography, too:
Harper tells it, I picked the ring up that Friday with the intention of proposing the following week during a camping trip. It was June and the Rochester International Jazz Festival was taking place in our neighborhood. We were out enjoying the music when I decide I can’t wait another minute. I make up some excuse about needing to stop home and I leave Julia with her Mom and Dad who were also at jazz fest. I sprinted home and hung a wire of 1000 white LED lights around our back patio until it gave the impression we were floating in space. I wanted to propose at home since it was where we put down roots together. I called her and asked her to stop home, which she reluctantly did. I took her hand and knelt and looked her in the eye and told her how much I loved her and asked if she would marry me and she said “of course.”
Isn’t this bridal party the most stylish ever?! Loooooove!
Julia actually ordered the Hearst gown from BHLDN online, and added a bustle to the floral-lace-lined train. The shrug is from BHLDN, too, and comes in ivory + rose. Winter wedding perfection!
We wanted our day to feel warm, ethereal and romantic. Blue Barn gave us an awesome canvas to work with since we wanted to juxtapose the more masculine, modern brewery space with an overflow of feminine elements including our rosy color palette, soft fabric draping, excessive farm-fresh flowers, and glittery-gold details. Our bridal party was the heart of our wedding. Visually, they nailed the color palette and aesthetic, and spiritually, they filled the room with an overwhelming amount of energy, love and support.
Their color palette: dusty rose + moonlit mauve, autumnal shades of pinks and purples, jewel-toned burgundy and deep navy blue, with sparkly gold accents.
Music was a huge part of our vision and we carefully selected everything from the ceremony music to must-play dancing songs, and all of the moments in between. Our soundtrack set the tone for each chapter throughout the night.
We’ve always been deeply connected, drawn to each other through a magnetic and lasting attraction so we chose Fire and The Flood by Vance Joy for our first dance. We challenge each other, love each other, and need each other. Plus, it’s upbeat and inspiring with several opportunities to twirl.
Whoa. Isn’t this reception space dreamy?
Their wedding planning advice… Come to a consensus on the size of the wedding and the corresponding budget and don’t feel bad if you can’t invite everyone. Have whatever version of a wedding is right for you as a couple. And go on a honeymoon immediately after the wedding, even if it’s a couple-day trip. Bask in the glory of a wedding well-done!
So many gorgeous flowers by Jenny of Flowerwell throughout. They also had DIY hanging hoops and planters, as well as floral hanging hoops and draping by Nicole of I Do Wedding Flowers.

We know people tend to not remember exactly what was said, or what they saw, but they remember how they felt. Our vision was to create an experience and environment that was dreamy, wild and truly romantic—a reflection of our own love and a lasting imprint of everyone’s love in the room.
Mission so, so very accomplished. Congrats, you two!
