Jewel tones are a favorite color palette for winter weddings, but we love how Emily + Joe chose an all-white Texas venue, Prospect House, to really make them pop. Even sweeter, these two met when they were 14, so their wedding felt like a big culmination of a 14 year journey—from chatting on AIM to reconnecting over the years to long distance dating, and eventually, making it official. Emily tells it, Our theme would almost be a winter garden party! I wanted a lot of greenery with some pops of color, and Emily of Bird Dog Wedding did an amazing job of bringing in what she called pops of “citrus colors!” It represented us well because while Joe and I are winter people—all vacations (and even our honeymoon) have revolved around skiing—dark, moody colors just didn’t feel right. When I think of Joe specifically, I see a lot of life and joy, so incorporating bright colors that stand out in a winter setting was perfect for us!
Emily wore a fitted lace wedding gown by Martina Liana from Brickhouse Bridal with a high, modern lace neckline and buttons that ran all the way down through the train. So elegant!
Just before walking down the aisle to see Joe, I was alone in my bridal suite and had an opportunity to reflect on our relationship and set intentions for the rest of the evening. I then remember hearing our guitarist start playing “Blackbird” and being immediately overcome with emotion. It was a 14+ year journey for Joe and I to get to where we are, and I think I felt all of that finally come together in those brief moments before the ceremony.
Emily’s bridal bouquet featured poppies, ranunculus, garden roses, hellebores, and greenery, and Clementine Botanical Art also added kumquats to the coordinating arrangements throughout the venue.
An overarching memory that really stands out is the energy we felt from our guests. I remember the excitement of walking down the aisle after just being announced as husband and wife and feeling the SO MUCH energy from all of our guests who sat in nearly freezing weather for us. The amount of love and support that came from our guests all night was an unreal experience.
We loved that Prospect House didn’t feel like a typical Texas wedding venue. It is modern with clean lines and a blank slate to really add as many or as few design touches as you want. We also loved the square that overlooked the Texas Hill Country and felt it was such a unique backdrop for our ceremony—I was immediately dreaming of beautiful florals taking over the square’s edges!

On planning… I’m a textbook type-A, so I spent a lot of time building out spreadsheets and timelines to keep all of my to-do’s sorted. Once I had that done, I found it easy enough to start working down that checklist. Every free moment I had, I reached out to vendors, organized quotes and contracts, and kept track of what was left. I think getting everything done early (Emily would joke I had more done than her brides getting married in the next month) helped my stress levels a lot. I also think just trusting the vendors Emily recommended and not over-thinking what they had planned was super helpful.
