Clara + Toby’s Alicante wedding channels color and creativity in the most elegant way. They trusted Paloma Cruz to bring their vision to life, so much so that many of the details were a surprise not only for guests, but the couple themselves. The result was a glamorous yet relaxed celebration at Casa Benigalip surrounded by nature and their closest friends. Be sure to pin these photos Óscar Guillén shared to your wedding board!
The couple met in 2015 while working together at Sony Music in London. They got engaged in Big Sur in August 2019, have since called LA home. They decided to make their wedding at 3-day event in Spain, since they had guests traveling from all over the world and wanted them to all experience an amazing new destination.
Clara says, I wear a lot of two-piece crop top outfits in my everyday life. When I started looking for a dress, I wanted to stay away from this so my wedding look would feel different and special, but after a long day of trying dresses with my parents in Madrid, my mum convinced me to try one by Immacle Novias and it just felt right. I instantly felt comfortable with it and I knew I had found my dress. My friends bought my earrings as a wedding gift so it felt really special to have them be part of my outfit. This is a tradition we have in our group of friends for all the brides!
Clara walked down the aisle to Elton John’s “Your Song” and Florence + The Machine “Cosmic Love” played after the first kiss. And instead of speeches during dinner, the couple chose to incorporate speeches by their friends into the ceremony. They also read traditional vows in each other’s language, Clara in English and Toby in Spanish.
Rainbow clouds of flowers, yuuum! La Federica made sure all of the arrangements reflected the couple’s vibrant yet polished style. Love these colorblock arrangements and yarn decorations, too:
Our wedding was meant to be in 2020 and got rescheduled twice due to the pandemic. With a lot of our friends living in different countries around the world we hadn’t seen a lot of these people for 2+ years, so finally being all together was the most special part of the weekend.
We’re a very relaxed pair, our enjoyment from the whole experience was mainly all about making sure our friends and loved ones had the best time together, that the whole event felt intimate and unique. We wanted everyone to go home remembering making new friends in a country many hadn’t been to before, and that’s very in-line with how we approach our everyday lives.
Dried floral clouds and colorful fringe lights hung over a single long table for all guests to dine at and get to know each other. Colorful transparent candelabras, a handwritten menu, a fresh flower arrangement and gauze napkins lined the table below.
The hardest part for us was definitely the seating arrangement—as we only had one long table we needed to make sure it was really well balanced, especially with so many groups who’d never met and some not speaking the same language. With the list changing all the way up to the last minute from last minute COVID cases etc, it was a moving target.
Toby works in electronic music so we knew that having something related to that DJ culture would be a big surprise for everyone. The lighting company rented us an amazing light-up DJ booth in the shape of a huge boombox and Toby went up with his friends at one point to play a few songs and relive his early days as an aspiring performer.
A last note, from our bride… Don’t feel like you have to tick all the boxes of what people expect a wedding to be. This is your day and everything should feel natural and fun and unique to you. Focus on what’s going to make the day special to you and your guests, nothing else matters including what may or may not be expected or traditional.
We couldn’t agree more! Cheers to the happy couple!
