Hello, Cakies! It’s Jillian here. For those of you who might be new, I’m the co-founder of this here blog. Today, I’m sharing a glimpse into my new home. We might not share a ton of home decor content but it’s a nice way for us to open our doors, so to speak, and give you a little behind the scenes on our lives and how we like to entertain.
To give you a little backstory… A few months ago my husband, Scott Clark, and I purchased our very first home in LA. As anyone can tell you, making your first home purchase is a grueling, emotional experience. Not to mention, it will certainly test the bounds of your relationship, ha! After months of searching, and many declined offers later, we found the perfect bungalow style home. It was a flip, so didn’t need much work, which was exactly what we wanted. The home has just enough projects for us to add our personal stamp on the place.
And, the first thing I knew this home needed was a porch swing! I searched high and low for the perfect swing to fit our style. We lived in Venice Beach for 5 years, so I guess when it comes to our home style, we acquired a modern beachy vibe. When I spotted this swing from Serena & Lily I knew it would be the perfect fit. It really sets the tone for space and is so welcoming.
To spruce up the porch, I first went to Rolling Greens (our local nursery) and purchased plants that could take high sun. I also wanted plants I could pop into the ground later once they got bigger. (Tip: if you purchase plants smaller they’re much cheaper!) I got some bougainvillea, lavender, palms, succulents, and an olive tree. I purchased a few of these cute baskets (here and here) from Ikea and mixed those with terra cotta pots. Then, to make it extra cozy in the evenings, we toss out these pillows and a throw blanket, pop open a bottle of wine, and just sit back and relax.
How cute are these lanterns?
My favorite time of day. Evening light, mountains in the distance, and two sweet boys who are finally starting to like each other. For now!
This is the first of many projects for our little bungalow. With two boys running around, we’re busy landscaping the backyard, building a fort similar to our old one, and making it feel as friendly and cozy as our porch.
I’ll be sharing more bits of our home along the way. Thanks for following along, and cheers from our family to yours!
xo, Jillian
