Whimsical, brightly colored wedding ideas and a surprise proposal!

Bright whimsical wedding invites

Been a minute since we’ve had up a super festive, whimsical set of wedding ideas around here, huh? (Except for those pretty edible flower cakes we shared.) Lucky for us, Jen of Altar Ego Weddings packed so many bright, colorful tones into this sweet editorial—like electric pink and neon orange—and to top it all off, there’s a proposal, too. Their groom model Billy used this special shoot as an opportunity to propose to his girl Shayna. See it all in the photos ML Photo+Film shared below!

How neat are these invites for a whimsical spring wedding? Jen, who is also behind Jen Krause Calligraphy & Design, kept them in line with the fun vibe but added a touch of pretty with the delicate calligraphy.

Jen explains, The sweetheart table was one of the bigger statements. It included two place settings for the bride + groom—with hand-woven turquoise placemats; hand-dyed magenta/white napkins; abstract, hand-painted plates by Kailo Chic; and bright gold flatware from 10th Collection. Each place setting included two small mandarin oranges (perfect brunch appetizer, right?) and a neon pink place card. The “centerpiece” was all taper candles—42 to be exact. The Bloom Bar added a few blooms in between, but the main focus was the different layers of pink, yellow, orange and turquoise. The final touch of the sweetheart table were two specialty orange chairs, provided by the venue.

The interactive escort card display had bright envelopes with cards inside that indicated the table number. And, the glassine envelopes were filled with confetti to use for an “exit” confetti toss.

Instead of a traditional champagne tower, they went with a mimosa tower and adorned it with strawberries and flowers.

Not to mention, the milkshakes by The Peached Tortilla. Yum!

When it came time for the actual proposal to happen, everyone knew but the bride. We mic’ed up the groom and asked them to exchange faux vows. These would be the perfect segue into the proposal, but the groom got nervous, and decided to delay a bit. Our wonderful photographer, ML Photo+Film, had the bride turn around for some detail shots of just her. When the bride turned back around, her man was on one-knee, with a gorgeous rough cut diamond ring from Midwinter Co in hand, and nervously asked, “Will you marry me in real life, too?” Of course, she said yes! We ended the shoot with handmade confetti poppers and a champagne toast. It was the perfect day, and now the couple is set to get married next spring!

These two are too cute. See more bright, whimsical wedding ideas in our gallery:

Shayna: It was a day I will always cherish. I was so excited to do the shoot and had no idea it would turn into the biggest surprise of my life. It was so much fun to be pampered and photographed for the day while surrounded by such experienced but easygoing professionals. Then, to be surprised at the end with the proposal! It will be one of my most treasured memories and I couldn’t have thought of a better way to have it all happen. I hope to work with them all again in the future for our actual wedding!

Billy: It was a great day. I was so nervous leading up to the proposal but everyone was so nice and calming! Altar Ego Weddings did such a beautiful shoot that we feel married already!

So, when’s the big day? Best wishes to Billy + Shayna!
