It’s been awhile since we’ve shared a wedding at Hummingbird Nest Ranch just outside of Los Angeles, but Allie + Max reminded us why we love it so. These two sure knew how to bring their personal style to the lush, Spanish inspired property, without taking away from its beauty. With minimal, moody decor and lots of dried flowers, they worked with Nicole George Event Planning & Design, to make the space their own. Thanks to Isaiah + Taylor Photography for the images below!
From the team at Nicole George Event Planning & Design: It was a breath of fresh air to plan and design Allison & Max’s modern LA wedding set among a lush garden oasis in the Malibu Hills! It was planning gold to create a day that was true to their personalities from a sentimental ceremony to urban-inspired design to EDM music and late-night pizza under the market lights. The design, of course, was my favorite element, especially as Allison had a very specific vision of a minimalistic, moody, and neutral palette with each detail having a purpose and its own specific style (I.E. no two centerpieces looked the same). I loved that she didn’t want the vibe to feel like a wedding and stayed away from traditional wedding flowers and design making the juxtaposition of the black tabletop with dried flowers in concrete vessels among the natural lush surroundings, a surprisingly beautiful and balanced design. They were a true example of what staying true to your personalities but taking risks in design can do to create a unique and beautiful wedding!
Allie fell in love with an image on Pinterest of a lunaria bouquet with yellow accents, which ended up inspiring their entire wedding design. She wanted lunaria to be the focal point of the dried flower arrangements. 12th & Olive Floral Design made it happen!
BTW, the bride actually designed her own dress! So, so stunning.
They had their pup along for their first look, which made for some extra special photos.
Isn’t this entire location incredible?!
Allie tells it, We wanted a completely outdoor wedding that was minimal and natural without being rustic. The space was lush and green, but set against a dry landscape so I wanted to incorporate those neutral colors with a moody vibe to complement the aesthetic of our photographers. I didn’t want to distract from the natural beauty of the venue so we kept the decor minimal… Everything needed to be purposeful. This helped create our palette of black, gold, yellow, and ivory. The ceremony was kept bare with a vase full of lunaria to the side instead of a traditional arch. We had two officiants so we didn’t want the “altar” to look busy.
Two of their closest friends officiated their wedding, which made the entire ceremony super memorable and full of laughs.
Advice from the bride… Designate time to spend visiting all your guests and take it slow before getting to the party. We went to two tables before a favorite song came on and the dance floor was calling. Also, stay near your venue the night before! Against the advice of my planner, I stayed about 30 minutes away and got a flat- tire upon arrival.
Now THIS is how you do modern minimalism right, my friends!
They needed a lunaria-embellished cake, of course.
