What a lovely idea to marry aboard The Queen Mary, one of the last surviving ocean liners, no? The sea breeze in your hair, sunset on the horizon, historical wooden planks at your heels as you say ‘I Do’. Today’s couple did just that. It was a chic, dressed to the nines fete with impeccable design, and a color palette worthy to please the ocean gods. Margie + Morgen, talented architects, have traveled through Europe, Central and South America, built a wooden canoe, started gardens, kept bees, hot air ballooned, and collaborated on various artistic and architectural projects (just to name a few). Photographer, Ben Christensen, captured their classy personalities + excellent taste perfectly!
The result of the brainstorming sesh that took place between Margie, and Kathryn, of Blackbird Letterpress, was these amazing letterpress goods (printed on 265gsm Bamboo paper). And, let’s not forget the calligraphy, by Betsy Dunlap. We’re dying over the sage and coral writing – such a romantic pair that tie seamlessly into the flowers, Morgen’s suit, and delicate details throughout.
We love Art Deco architecture as well as the fashion and music of the late 1930’s, so we were inspired by the period of The Queen Mary (built in 1936). We attempted to recall the feeling of the late 30’s but with our personal stamp on it, aiming for a timeless and unique look with our clothing.
Strung around the railing and the top of the gazebo were flags in muted versions of their colors – coral, salmon, sage, french gray. Oh, but you probably want to know about that killer dress Margie’s got on, right? It’s a vintage Oscar de la Renta. Love!
Favors were letterpress coasters, (in 2 different designs, by Blackbird Letterpress) bound with baker’s twine. Other pretty paper goods included: notebooks (which was a favor at a bridal luncheon), table numbers (letterpress waves w/Betsy Dunlap calligraphy of the numbers), and manilla tag place cards (Morgen diligently typed in everyone’s name and table number on his antique Underwood typewriter).
Margie didn’t want the standard big wedding cake, so opted for 6 different cakes from Superfine Bakery, varying in shapes, sizes, and textures.
With Marie Fleur and an amazing collection of jazz musicians from the LA area, the music was able to match the timeless mood M + M were going for. There was a solo pianist during the cocktail hour and then a full band during the dinner and reception. During the band breaks Marie put together a mix of turn of the century popular jazz songs, and Dixieland Jazz that Margie sent to her ahead of time, as a nod to her southern roots.
Congratulations M + M!
