We’ve heard it before – Chicago is a great city for foodies. Is that why Le + Lindsey live there? We’ll never know. But we do know they love to deep-fry their own doughnuts, and they had their reception at one of their favorite restaurants, Birchwood Kitchen. And we do know it’s charming as can be – modern, festive, and colorful! With a guest list of less than 50, they decided to take their guests on a mini adventure to experience their favorite parts about the city. A bit of Humbolt Park, a ride on public transportation (bus tickets were enclosed in their invitations!), and a great dinner – casual and intimate – a perfect day in their books.
We designed our invitations and had most of the pieces printed by Mite Print. We printed the heart insert and address labels at Staples. I would highly recommend both! We printed the belly bands ourselves. We were inspired by a program cover designed by Jim Henson. I wanted to have our invitations screen printed, however, we just couldn’t justify the cost. I thought about learning to silk screen so I could do the invitations myself, but quickly realized that would be crazy. Luckily, our printer had the genius idea of printing our invitations on textured paper which gave us the look and feel of screen printing while costing way, way less.
Cute DIY project alert: The heart pins were one of my favorite projects. It made me so happy looking out at our guests from the alter and seeing all the red hearts. They were relatively simple to make too. We traced and then cut out the hearts from stiffened felt and then hot glued pin backings onto them.
Our reception was held at Birchwood Kitchen, a tiny restaurant a mile from the Boat House. It, too, didn’t need much in the way of decor. We kept the tables simple with runners and napkins, small bud vases, taper candles, and tiny dreamcatchers made by my sister.
