It wasn’t until Anneke + Corey spotted the amazing photography of W. Scott Chester that they started thinking differently about the overall styling of their wedding, moving away from the “traditional” wedding that didn’t feel like them. Considering their venue’s history and sandstone walls, the wedding theme was almost a no brainer – old world colonial with flourishes of inspiration from Somerset Maugham’s short stories about travelling through the Far East. Essentially, they wanted to style the wedding just as they’d styled their home: vintage with modern touches. It’s so interesting to find out how y’all come up with your colors and themes!

For the ceremony we threw together (very last minute) an old wooden toolbox and filled it with vintage postcards, bubbles and packets of birdseed (a good idea for anyone using a private or government owned lawn who aren’t allowed rice or confetti!).
We put together our seating chart using a second hand table top easel, some vintage city map stickers and a label gun. In doing this, we tried to match destinations with places that were meaningful to the corresponding guest.
In the months leading up to the wedding we’d buy things as we went. We got to know all the little shops really well and found lots of nuggets to further “vintagify” our venue: old cigar bosses, match stick holders, goblets, vases and old medicine bottles. That, and stack and stacks of vintage books about 19th and early 20th century travel to match our theme.
During the groom’s speech, Corey surprised Anneke when he sang this song he wrote specifically for the night.
Fun fact: Anneke + Corey couldn’t afford a videographer so they tracked down and bought a super 8 camera in good condition (which arrived 2 days before the wedding – eeep!) and took shots themselves throughout the day. That’s one way to save some money and have some great personal footage of those behind the scenes moments. On top of that, they’ll also saving money by paying a film student to make all the edits! Great tip!
