We’ve heard of about a zillion ways to pick a wedding color scheme, but John + Amy’s method is a new one: they pulled from the colors of their most special possession, a vintage Persian rug to be used in the ceremony. From there came the colors of her bouquet + the event design, an eclectic mix of marsala, burgundy, navy, green, gray, and just a hint of blush. Isn’t it incredible? Talk about unique.
Thanks to Meredith Brockington, who these two hooked up with after connecting on Insta, for the photos.
Amy tells it, As soon as we walked into 58 Fore – The Portland Company, a foundry complex that has remained more or less untouched since the 1800s, we knew we found the perfect location. Beautifully aged hardwood floors, exposed brick walls, ancient pulleys still hanging from the ceilings, an incredible history, and countless windows looking over the Atlantic?! We were instantly sold, and decided to hold both our ceremony and reception indoors (as Maine weather is quite unpredictable).
Amy wore an ethereal A-line Wtoo gown with tulle netting, beaded accents, and illusion detail. She added additional layers to the skirt with Bette’s Bridal Stylings of Maine.
Scouring flea markets and antique shops around the country for treasures is one of our pastimes, and many pieces from our personal collection were incorporated into our wedding. We were married on a vintage Persian rug that has been a part of John’s family for years, our table assignments were pinned to an antique mirror we stumbled upon at a small shop in Hallowell, Maine, and we collected and (painstakingly!) polished fifty antique brass candlesticks from flea markets across the state for our reception.
They also created signage, table numbers, and chair signs from reclaimed wood for collected frames, made mini glass maple syrup bottles, and painted 50 glass votive holders, to name a few projects.
Cheers!
