When we see a wedding theme called fun + floral, yeeeah we gotta take a look. Even their wedding color was “floral”. (And a little teal, see J’s pants). They wanted the day to be full of DIYs and personalization. Oh and the DIY beer bar you’ll see in these photos by Erin Jean definitely put the FUN in fun and floral.
The bouquet: dahlia, homegrown hops, eucalyptus, ranunculus, spray roses, scabiosa & Italian ruscus
Jason and Nell call each other Bear & Bee, so they used that as a mini theme too. She says, We first went to the Cedar Creek Park a few years prior. We were trying to hit up as many Wisconsin breweries as we could that year, and there’s a small one next to the park—Silver Creek Brewery. Jason took me back the next year and proposed, and we couldn’t see getting married anywhere else. It has a beautiful wooden pavilion and it’s surrounded by two rivers. That park was perfect for a bear + a bee!
Nell walked down the aisle to Beth/Rest by Bon Iver + the first dance was to an It’s Always You cover by She & Him.
We recently purchased a foreclosed house and incorporated a few aspects of the house in our wedding. We ripped out the old vanity from the bathroom and turned it into our Bear & Bee’s Beer Bar. The table numbers + signage were made from salvaged wood. We were growing hops for 4 years, which we used for the bouquets, boutonnieres, and decorations. I made the invites, menus, honey labels + cake (people thought I was crazy for that one). Jason and I made the giant Jenga and people signed that so it was a fun lawn game/guestbook. We used my great grandpa’s painting ladder as a shelf for the Instax camera and film, and strung some twine around the ladder and a tree for people to hang their Polaroids on.
Scroll down for the bride + groom’s fave moments…
Jason: Sitting in the tree swinging our feet together. We were getting our pictures taken after dinner, during the golden hour, and we found this tree and climbed up into it. It was the moment I was able to stop and think about our future together as I held my love close. I imagined walking through the park with my love while she’s preggers with our first child; I imagined playing in the park with our kids; I imagined picnics in the park as a family; I imagined us walking through the park as grandparents, still stopping to sit in the tree and swing our feet while thinking about all the wonderful times we have together as husband and wife. It was a moment of tranquility and excitement.
Nell: What sticks out to me when I look back on the day is sitting at our table at dinner, looking around at all our guests, and decorations we worked so hard on, and taking a breath and smiling because we were living our dream day and it reflected us so beautifully! Jason and I had just cut our cake before dinner, and he used his new, engraved knife (they were his groomsmen gifts) to cut the cake because we realized we forgot to bring a knife to cut the cake. There were so many cute, perfect + imperfect moments that I couldn’t help but smile as I took it all in during dinner.
