We’ve loved seeing all the variations of fall weddings these past couple weeks. A few have steered away from the standard color palette we’re all used to, and we love it! Heather + Larry, they wanted a fall wedding (little white pumpkin escort cards were a must), but with a little more oomf. Their theme: refined Bohemian, casually elegant, and artistic with unexpected florals and colors. Sounds pretty great, no? Here’s how they made it all work…
Heather’s bouquet recipe: Pale peach dinnerplate dahlias, young bittersweet, ‘butterscotch’ garden spray roses, ‘quicksand’ roses, bronze upright amaranthus, dried french lavender. Flower stems are partially wrapped with pale grey embroidered satin ribbon embellished with a family heirloom broche (her grandmother’s), given to the bride by her mother.
We love what their florist, Le Reve had to say about staying as green as possible with all the arrangements:
Using a huge proportion of locally grown flowers and display items we saved a ton on our carbon footprint. Some of the roses were also ecologically grown. By using family owned mason jars for the entire event display, we re-used instead of purchasing new! By hand-making all the table numbers, we used farm-grown wood, and made them on the spot instead of them being shipped. Any plant waste was composted, and any boxes used were recycled.
A family friend made those cute small jars of maple syrup for every guest.
For their first dance song they asked their band to do a more soulful and upbeat version of, “You’ve Made Me So Very Happy” originally performed by Blood, Sweat, and Tears. The father-daughter dance was to “Copperline” by James Taylor, and the mother-son dance was to “Just the Way You Are” by Billy Joel.
We had rain the day before and drizzle the day of the wedding and I was freaking out until I saw my husband and realized how happy I was. At that moment any worries I had previously had about the weather and worries throughout the planning process were washed away (no pun intended!), and for what may have seemed to other people like a disaster, so-so weather on your wedding day, was as close to perfect as you can get day for us. Believe me, none of the small stuff we all sweat leading up to our wedding matters on the day of. So if you are a bride-to-be that is experiencing anxiety for whatever reason, take a breath and relax because it won’t matter on your wedding day!
Congratulations Heather + Larry!
