Yep! Grace + Sean said I Do at the Natural History Museum in Los Angeles. How cool is that? Once you know that they met during an improv show (read on for the story!) and Sean popped the Q at the movies, you know an interactive space like a museum had to be their venue. GATHER Events made sure all those animal artifacts and the moody space stayed refined and elegant in the design + flowers too.
See all the photos by Mandee Johnson in the post!
Grace says, In lieu of a traditional entrance, Sean entered the ceremony from the Rose Garden through a set of French doors at the altar. His unconventional entrance started the event off on a playful note and was so true to his personality! In an effort to keep a sense of intimacy and informality, we elected to forego a bridal party, but still had our closest friends in our hotel suites to get ready with us and a number of them had roles in the ceremony or spoke at the reception.
They dined in the mammal hall, family-style, with food from Whoa Nelly.
From GATHER: The textured floral arrangements and garlands by Inessa Nichols for GATHER Events freshened up the moody space… Clean type font letterpressed paper goods created by Underwood Letterpress were the perfect compliment to the museum’s vintage vibe. To keep things a bit playful, Underwood Letterpress adorned the paper goods with a custom-designed brontosaurus.
As an “artifact” that had popcorn from the theater Sean proposed at up for grabs!
Wedding Music
Processional: “Into the Mystic” by Van Morrison
Recessional: “Love Rhino” by Sunny Levine (which Grace surprised Sean by performing later on!)
First Dance: “Slow Show” by The National
Lastly, their story… Sean performs in a weekly improv show every Sunday night at the Upright Citizens Brigade theatre in Hollywood. On Halloween night in 2010, I attended the show with a friend and sat in the third row. I found out much later that when Sean saw me in the audience, he immediately wanted to meet me. After the show, Sean found me outside the theatre and stood next to me, pretending to look at his phone. He slowly inched closer and closer until I had no choice but to notice him and compliment his performance. Little did Sean know this brilliant tactic was totally unnecessary. I had wanted him to talk to me all along! He was my favorite part of the show.
Congratulations!
