If you were into the deep hues and modern textures of Tuesday’s wedding but are looking for a more minimalist approach, allow us introduce you to this Icelandic concept from Revel and LH Photography. Since so many engaged couples are influenced by their past travels together when planning, they wanted to bring the idea of a trip to Iceland back home in a fresh, artful way. With a sculptural bouquet by Gatherer Floral Co and ethereal paper from Eleven Note to name a few elements, it’s all about collecting small, subtle details and bringing them to life at your local venue.
The shoot was inspired by the idea of a couple getting engaged while on an amazing vacation at a beautiful destination like Iceland, and bringing some of that magic and inspiration to their wedding celebration. We drew inspiration from Iceland with the dreamy starry skies and the ethereal nature of the landscape. We kept the different elements very monochromatic in color and we focused on playing with texture and shapes to pay homage to our inspiration while creating a modern but timeless, ethereal, and effortless feel. We put an emphasis on pushing the design outside of the box while still focusing on attainability and simplicity. Since the venue is in Florida, we wanted to make sure we blended and juxtaposed the two different landscapes harmoniously. The different elements were carefully designed and chosen to bring all the ideas together.
The rings were even inspired by the Icelandic landscape and iconic landmarks.
The structured bouquet by Gatherer Floral Co took a minimalist approach inspired by the art of Ikebana style floral arrangements.
For the ceremony, we created a modern, mixed-material backdrop as an ode to both the architectural and natural structures of Iceland, specifically the iconic Hallgrímskirkja church and the Basalt Columns. We kept the other details clean, geometric, and monochromatic.
While the bride + groom outfits were modern and sophisticated, they also had a casual-but-fashion-forward vibe with the groom’s two-toned suit complemented by a charcoal tee and the bride’s dress featuring an almost t-shirt like feel.
The team imagined personal touches their couple would want to include, like custom craft cocktails from The Courtesy Bar as inspired by their travels together.
For the main table, we brought in natural elements through the wood top and stoneware and layered the rest of the elements in a high-contrast, monochromatic color palette. Ghost chairs were chosen for their transparent, icy appearance as they provided a clear view of the rest of the design elements. The flokati throws added warmth with a Nordic touch.
The Pastry Studio designed the cake to show off the full gradient of their color palette from light grey to icy blues and deep midnight tones.Lastly, even the lighting design and projection was a nod to the ethereal glow of the Icelandic sky.
