Sure flowers have always been a mega feature in weddings, but somehow they become *even more* essential with each passing year. Remember the year of giant bridal bouquets? Or all those lush floral ceremony backdrops? But all that was just build up for 2020, we think. This year is all about the unexpected. (And sometimes unnatural—as illustrated so very subtly above.) Naturally we had to style our latest picks from Crate and Barrel’s Wedding Registry in the context of said trend.

Trend #1
Dried + Bright. The brighter, the better. Bold quirky arrangements = instant conversation starter. Brides are asking florists like Felisa of Of The Flowers, the genius behind all this floral art, for bold, surprising, and even weird displays!

A stylish bar cart obvs requires one of the aforementioned arrangements, whether in your wedding or at home. Not to mention pretty handblown glassware (this exclusive collection includes the pitcher, too!).

Trend #2:
Surprising flower varieties and color combos. Gosh, there are endless ways to include florals in your wedding ceremony, and it needn’t be a big ol’ hoop if you don’t want! Ask your floral designer to show you varieties you may have *never even seen* so you can make a statement in an original way.

Stagger baskets in all different sizes to lead the eye to the altar or an entryway. This is a tip for both your wedding and your newlywed abode! (We’ll leave that Registry link riiight here.) If you’ve ever tried to search for something as seemingly simple as a good basket, BTW, you know how easy it is to end up down the Google rabbit hole. Crate and Barrel‘s own collections, like these exclusive handcrafted rattan baskets and bowls, only feature the options you’d actually want to consider.

Side note: The the hanging tapestry install below is sooooo cool in real life. It almost looks fake here, but it really is all dried flowers stitched onto fabric. So super cool. Someone, steal this idea for your own wedding, stat!

Trend #3
Monochromatic. All last year we scrolled through tons of wedding editorials with a focus on the monochromatic trend, so now’s the time to take that inspo and run with it. Blush on blush on blush is ALWAYS a hit, so definitely don’t shy away from registering for lots of essentials in your fave colorway to pair with your favorite flowers again and again. Wouldn’t it be so fun to create a table like this for a spring party?

These linen napkins (this design actually comes in 15 shades, but blush forever) and solid stoneware plates make for a place setting that is a real life dreamscape.

The key is gathering elements in varying shades of your chosen color, so contrast blush with a dusty rose vase. Your Wedding Registry is such a good place to find pieces that will anchor the style of your home. You’ll keep vases for years on years on years, which is a big consideration for Crate and Barrel when designing pieces that are modern and fun, yet won’t go out of style a year later.
