Today is such an exciting day because I get to share the trip Scott and I took to Hawaii with our family. This wasn’t any ordinary family trip. First, I’ve been dreaming of traveling to Hawaii as a family for a very long time. Second, Scott and I were celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary. That’s right, I know I’m dating myself and maybe even this blog. (I actually went deep into our archives and found a post on my DIY wedding invites.) Our wedding was perfect in every way, it was a budget DIY wedding, we mostly paid for ourselves, and we still talk about those moments with our friends and family as being one of the best. As we’ve grown as a couple and now as a family, it started to feel like with our 10-year anniversary looming, we should do something really special to commemorate the moment.
The Four Seasons Resort Lanai reached out to me about doing a press trip and I thought, why don’t we do a Vow Renewal? Lanai is the smallest inhabited island in Hawaii, so it’s the perfect destination for an intimate getaway. We started planning right away with Unveiled Hawaii, Maui’s Angels, MEI DAY Floral, and Wendy Laurel, who captured every moment perfectly. Even though we didn’t have all of our family and friends together to witness the event, it was still the dreamiest of trips that we will cherish forever.
When dreaming up the concept of our Vow Renewal, I wanted the florals to reflect the native Hawaiian plants but in a more muted pastel pallet. MEI DAY Floral blew me away with her design. Tamara grew up in Hawaii so she is well- versed in all the amazing botanicals the island has to offer. I absolutely love her creative vision and if you’re thinking of getting married in Hawaii you must look up her work. She’s the best!!! Oh, and she runs this super cool boutique.
You can find these floral heels here.
Two things I love, wearing hats and getting to spend this special moment with my oldest son!
Hat by Janessa Leone!
When trying to find a dress that would be memorable, beach vow renewal appropriate, and feel boho chic, I happened to stumbled upon a pop shop by Gossamer. If you haven’t heard, they’re a vintage shop inspired by ethereal materials. I have a pretty curvy figure (not ashamed of it), so when I initially stepped in my first thought was there’s no way I’m going to fit into any of these dresses that look they’d fit a size 2 model. To my surprise, I found this dress, it fit, and was only $87. Win, win after looking at dresses in the $400 range.
My handsome fella sporting The Black Tux’s light grey suit with a floral tie by My Tie Shop. I sourced all the boy’s clothes from Zara. If you’re looking for outfits for the little members of your wedding party, shop there first. They have so much cute stuff at a good price.
At sunset, my older son walked me down the beach to this beautiful tropical floral oasis were I met with my younger son, Scott, and the officiant. It was so magical, even if my older son was hesitant and needed to be bribed with candy and the young guy wanted to pull out all of the flowers as we exchanged our vows. It was real, and for that moment, we just let it go and allowed them to frolick in the sand while we reflected on all that had happened in 10 years.
How cool is this floral moment?
This moment was everything!
Off in the distance, you can see the Four Seasons. We walked out into the tide pools to get some epic shots. Brides, it so worth pushing yourself out of your comfort zone for your photographer to capture the feeling of a moment.
Once the sun went down our kids went with a babysitter while we enjoyed a romantic dinner at Nobu. We actually have one here in LA but I had to travel many hours to finally try it, ha! It did not disappoint.
If you’re looking to elope or renew your wedding vows, The Four Seasons Lanai would be my top choice. You could technically have a wedding and honeymoon all in one. If you go, I highly encourage renting a jeep and going off road to some remote beaches. You can see more pics of our trip on my Instagram feed.
Thanks to everyone who made this week possible. I truly feel so lucky to have a platform that allows me to share and experience these moments.
Lots of love,
