Where to start with Lauren + Sean? Their serendipitous love story at a NYC coffee shop? Or their dreamy desert color palette? These two are full of sweet stories and it makes all the details they worked with Carly Rae Weddings to incorporate into their Pioneertown wedding all the better. So let’s just dive right in. The ultimate desert color palette: dusty desert road, marigold, rose gold, and other neutrals to complement the landscape.
We didn’t have a theme, we simply wanted our wedding to reflect us and our relationships—easy and laidback… I knew I wanted to get married in the desert, in the Joshua Tree area. All the venues we visited were nice, but a little too boho for me. When we visited Pioneertown Ranch, we both got a little emotional. It was a blank canvas for us to create on, and the homestead was exactly the house we’d build and design if it was our own. Jennifer DeLonge, the designer and owner, is an absolute genius with what she did with that space.
Their biggest DIY was this unique ceremony backdrop—Sean designed it and Lauren (a hobby woodworker) converted their garage into a workshop so they could built it together. It was their fave experience of planning!
Lauren, on her favorite memories… Well, I went to go walk down the aisle without my bouquet which was hilarious. Carly and Kathryn ran back into the house to get it and we had a quick football-esque play for me to get it before guests started to worry. That was epic. The ceremony was a tearful whirlwind, but after we walked back down the aisle together, Sean and I had a moment (planned by Carly) in the airstream on the property where there were apps and drinks waiting for us. That was the first moment Sean and I shared as husband and wife. We were able to breathe, kiss, and congratulate ourselves in peace before carrying on with the wedding. It was absolutely perfect.

Such a rad bar area!
Lauren designed the menus and Sean made the stands from scrap wood.
And these La Colombe favors repped the coffee shop they met at! (Find that story below…)
Their story… We met before the days of Bumble and Tinder at a coffee shop in SoHo, NYC. Sean was working as a barista and I was an overworked fashion publicist with an office around the corner. I knew the coffee company, La Colombe, from my college days in Philly where they’re based and when I learned they had cafes in New York I lost my mind (best. coffee. ever.). From the moment I saw Sean, I was drawn to him but couldn’t put my finger on why—we even passed each other in the street a few times—often times unknowingly until others pointed it out.
I always say it was something like The Adjustment Bureau where the universe was pulling us together in a way. Sean “had no idea” I had a crush on him, so my co-worker came up with a generous lie to help build up my confidence to ask Sean to a fashion week event. I gave Sean my email for him to RSVP and a slew of emails were exchanged before I wittingly poked fun at him for not asking for her number sooner. Once the first texts were sent, the rest was history. We went to an old school diner and ate breakfast sandwiches on waffles and had a beer at a dive bar for our first date—it always felt easy.
Four years later we moved to LA and left my east coast family and friends behind. It was a homecoming of sorts for Sean, who’s from the Bay area. When my parents came to visit it was my idea to throw a little get together with close friends, and this is where Sean proposed. Pretty brilliant, because I’m not an easy person to surprise. And, I made an ugly cry face that would rival Kim K’s any day of the week.
Cheers to the happy couple!
