We’ve already shown you how to start your wedding planning, create a wedding budget, and create a guest list, now it’s time to talk invites!
Today we’re excited to dive into one of our favorite aspects of designing a wedding… the invitations! This is the first time your guests get a taste of what your wedding will be like and it’s where things start to feel “official”. Paper and stationery is one of those categories where you can easily spend thousands of dollars, but could just as easily spend a fraction of that and still get something that’s unique, beautiful and high quality.

Recently, we’ve seen the category of semi-custom designs really take off and we love this option! By going this route, you can greatly cut down on the cost of having invitations custom designed solely for your wedding, but still tweak the details so they fit into your overall vision. Right about now, you may be wondering what exactly your wedding invitations should actually say. If you’re like us, you don’t sit around thinking about the proper etiquette for your personal interactions throughout your day… but you may want to elevate things just a bit to bring a more formal sense of occasion to your celebration. We’ve put together a 16 page guide to wedding invitation wording (and anything else you might send through the mail for your wedding), so you can trade in those hours of Googling, for something more fun- like sipping some rose with your sweetie. You can download that here!
Below, we’ve put together a roundup of some of our favorite semi-custom lines. We’ve had the pleasure of working with all of these companies and are endlessly impressed with their creativity and quality… we think you will be too.
Lisa of Venamour‘s work is creative, modern, and oh so stylish. We love the mix of color and type which can range from subtle to bold, as well as the unexpected botanical accents.
We’ve loved working with Karla of Written Word on custom invitations in the past and her semi-custom line does not disappoint! This line is full of classic touches but never feels fussy. She also offers a wide assortment of printing options as well as paper and envelope colors.
The husband and wife team at Bliss & Bone is known for working with unexpected textures and materials and they’ve definitely brought that sensibility to their semi-custom line. These guys probably have the largest inventory to choose from and really let you mix and match every detail. The possibilities are truly endless! They also offer digital options.
Cindy of Owl Post Calligraphy does an amazing job of mixing romance and whimsy, giving her work a warm and inviting feel to it. Every piece feels truly personal and handmade. She also offers a variety of printing options as well as paper and envelope colors.
We hope you’re loving this new semi-custom trend as much as we are!! Make sure to download our 16 page guide to wedding invitation wording (and anything else you might send through the mail for your wedding), here. This guide will answer all your questions about who and what to include when, the proper way to write everything out and tons of options that include a variety of family structures, levels of formality and different religions. We use this guide all the time with our own clients and it’s a total game changer!
