It’s hard to complain about working during the holidays when the task is to recount every single stunning cake we’ve fawned over throughout the year on 100 Layer Cake, and pull together our faves. As far as wedding trends go, 2014 was definitely the year of the naked cake. It’s officially been proven that an unfrosted cake can be just as (or more) jaw-dropping than its frosted counterparts. But this was also the year of metallic gold, voluminous blooms, and some of the most beautiful chocolate cakes we’ve ever laid eyes on! Take a peek for yourself and let us know which is #1 on your list!
First off, we spotted this cake above by Cake, Inc. and couldn’t believe our eyes.

We had a lot of gorgeous tropical themed shoots to inspire us in 2014. What’s not to love about this tropical cake by Cucina Coronado from our tropical summer wedding ideas post? Photo by: Ashley Kelemen Photography.
And we almost lost our breath over this coconut cake by Sugar Bee Sweets in this organic spring inspiration. Photo by: Nicole Berrett Photography.
Pretty simplicity in this floral accented cake by Cake Cathedral in this California vineyard wedding shot by Annie McElwain Photography.
You all went gaga over the cake and topper by Lulu Cake Boutique in the New York City loft wedding by Love, Sylvia Photography. (Remember all that pretty pink decor too? Gahh!)
And we know it’s not a wedding cake per se, but we had to add this sprinkle cake by Cakewalk Bake Shop from 100 Layer Cakelet to our list because it is probably the most pinned cake in history!
Too good to be true, right?!
Do you guys think it’s possible to top this in 2015? Seriously cannot wait to find out!!
